Rendon has essentially been a .778 OPS guy the past two minor league seasons, mostly at AAA. He's had 289 PA and a .597 OPS at the MLB level in limited action the past couple of years. So, I'm guessing he's considered a solid glove with a limited bat. As others have said, it could be a precursor move to a trade.

Surprising amount of power last year. As sad as it his, he could be in the conversation for starting shortstop next season.

Always need infielders, especially with one or two perhaps leaving the 40-man.

The reason should become more apparent sometime very soon. Elias has got this (not saying you disagree).
