Why did Davis go after Hyde? He was not happy.

I guess we'll learn what was said to spark all that..  Though I gotta say if Hyde was commenting on his defense, that's not good.  I mean Davis isn't the defender he used to be....and I know, I f'ing KNOW someone's going to come in with the the defensive metrics...but he's not a terrible defender.  Not great, but not a butcher.

So if Hyde was critiquing him for making errors, criticizing the one thing he can ACTUALLY do somewhat proficiently...that might make him snap.

Bummed I missed it live, stepped out of the room for a bit.

It has always been said that coaches do not criticize physical errors; they only criticize mental errors. That one play could only be viewed as a physical error, if an error at all. It was not a "mental error."

Let me get this straight: You have no idea of what was said or what happened ... but you think "Earl would approve."

To be fair, Earl would have lit his a** up, in in no uncertain terms, if he was displeased.

Yeah, I missed this too. Went to MASN page but didn’t catch anything on first scan.

I don't think that happened at all, who is saying that?

Hyde got on Davis for two lackadaisical efforts on defense and then Davis went after Hyde. We still don't know what was exactly said, and I don't know how much information Hyde will volunteer when he talks to the press.

Go back a page. Two or three references to Hyde “throwing the team under the bus.” I have no idea where that talk is coming from. Assuming I missed something today.

“So, the other guys are hitting homers off our pitchers. It just shows you how long we have to go to be a competitive team in the American League East, to have the pitching to be able to compete. Their guys are just way better than our guys.”

Because of tonight's missed throw? I think that is doubtful here. Maybe for other reasons but not for a missing a shitty throw.

It was a low throw right at him. Any competent first baseman makes that play. Davis didn't even get a glove on it. The other play was bad as well. First basemen get low throws they have to scoop all the time. The ball was thrown right at him.

Hyde made some comments to the media yesterday about how the Orioles pitching in particular needs to improve. I didn't see it as throwing the team under the bus. It might be a little harsh for today's ball player, but Hyde did not call out any player by name.

I think these are the quotes they're referring to.

Quote

“Broken record. ... It sucks,'' he said. “It’s not even their big boys, either, which is pretty scary. They have a ton of power that’s not even in their lineup, and they’ve hit 11 homers in two nights without (Giancarlo) Stanton and Edwin (Encarnacion), and Gleyber (Torres) has got the side issue, so the other guys are hitting homers off our pitchers.

We’re setting all kinds of, giving up records, our ERAs are unbelievably inflated. We just have a long way to go. I don’t know what else to say. It’s hard to watch. It’s tough. But you do the best you can and try to get guys better. But we’re not close.”

"It shows you how long we have to go to be a competitive team in the American League East and to have the pitching to be able to compete. Their guys are just way better than our guys.”

He's not wrong. We have a long way to go.
