Maybe they took him off the 40 with the hope of signing him back to a MiLB deal with a Spring Training invite if he doesn't get an MLB deal elsewhere.

That’s what I was thinking after the Stewart injury was announced. Hate to say it, but Hays hasn’t exactly been able to stay healthy either. I guess we’ll have to see if Williams sticks around.
