Rule 5 thoughts

We've been throwing around name possibilities for major league level of rule five draft, but does anyone (cough, cough, @Luke-OH) have any info on possible minor league rule five possibilities?

Last year we took Taylor grover with the first pick of the minor league rule five, he was rumored to have hit 100 mph pre-draft but didn't do much at Bowie.

Without the AAA protection list, I’m helpless here. And as far as I know, it’s not publicly available.

Did we pick some Quad A castoff yet?  I know I said I wouldn't check in for 24-48 hours after but today at work is a bit slow, I've caught up on all my stuff.  And quite frankly, I want to see who we pick so I can assume that they'll be terrible and make fun of anyone who's excited about it.

(Don't worry, it's not personal.  Unless it's atomic.)

I didn't know the trade portion wouldn't be announced until the draft was over so the suspense will continue to build!!

Cooper feels there is a chance the Orioles could essentially trade their pick today, which is No. 2 after Detroit selects No. 1.

Were that to happen, unless something has changed from last year, the Orioles would make a selection and the trade would be announced after the draft ends. They got Drew Jackson that way last year. He was selected by Philadelphia and acquired by the O’s after the draft.

Drew Jackson, an integral part of our spring training roster, don't forget.

    • The outfield might be slick from all the rain. I think that can influence lineup decisions.
    • @Bahama O's Fanor a free trial of any streaming platform. YouTube TV, Directtv, etc.
    • I’ve been rending my garments over Adley and his struggles for months now. But I will say that it seems like a bit of an odd time to come together as a group on the notion of benching him — just as he’s been starting to show some signs of being Adley again.  Over the last week of the season, Adley had a 50% hard hit rate and an average EV of 89.9 MPH. Those numbers absolutely dwarf what he was doing for months, when he was sitting at more like a 26% HH rate and an 85 MPH EV. Anecdotally, I can’t even remember the last time we saw Adley drive a ball into the left-center gap like he did multiple times against MIN. That’s Adley at his very best, and it was a sight for sore eyes.  I’m not sold that he’s 100% back, and I would still stick with McCann catching Burnes tomorrow (especially since using Adley as the DH is viable with a LHP starter in Ragans). But I sincerely doubt we can run the table without at least a few stretches of Adley being Adley — so I think this recent spurt is probably enough to warrant sending him out there every day still, in hopes that he really is getting it locked back in.
    • Apparently, if you just waited to buy tickets, you could just basically go for free. Well done orioles.
    • Well, they likely would not have drafted an overslot SS with the second round pick if they had taken another HS SS first overall, so would you rather have Henderson and Rutschman or just Witt?
    • It’s my understanding that nationally televised games are usually blacked out. Consider a free trial subscription of Fubo if they are still offering it.
    • The Orioles starters absolutely have to do better against the Royals. You can't ask this bullpen to pitch most of the game and expect to win. Right now I probably trust Coulombe the most and Soto (which I never would have guessed a couple weeks back). Perez has been really shaky recently to the point I'm wondering is he nursing a tired arm or minor injuey. Cano hasn't been good as well and O's really need him to get back into a groove. And Akin is usually trustworthy, but only starting the inning clean.
