Maryland vs. Marquette

I saw there was a Temple game thread, which is part of the Orlando Invitational, but figured this one might deserve its own.  Championship game.  Maryland has a chance to earn their biggest win of the year thus far.  I think Marquette is a solid squad.  The key, of course, is stopping Markus Howard.

I haven't had a chance to watch a full Terps game this year (saw the majority of the Rhode Island game), so looking forward to it.

Starting their best five players for the first time this season, seemed to make a big difference.

This is the first game I've watched where we've looked like a legit top five team from start to finish.  You've seen a lot of playing around with the rotations early in the season and minutes spread around.  As we get into conference play I think you'll see a rotation similar to what we saw today.

The Mitchell twins have been disappointing.  Scott looks like he is going to be the freshman on the roster who gives us the biggest impact.

Amazing game today.  They were really up for the game from the start.   Great defense vs Markus.   Smothered him.   Stix got in some foul trouble but Mitchel did a good job subbing for him.  Morsell, Cowan,  Wiggins, Ayala  all were on their game.  Much better than the Temple game.

Hard to know how they will do vs ranked team but they were fun to watch today.

Thanks for he comments, it's good to read. I recorded the game then watched the Ravens game. went into my DVR and for some reason it did not record! Uggghhh!

Looked at the boxscore and it certainly looked like a dominant game for them from start to finish which is good. Hopefully they've found the right rotation. Seems like Stix and Cowan have been playing better, which are musts for this team to reach their potential.

BTW, the Mitchell twins have zero offensive games. They've been very disappointing int he games I've seen.

Very disappointing, but bigs tend to take a little longer to adapt to the physicality of the college game.

My pessimism about them is somewhat mitigated by the pleasant surprise that Donta Scott has been.

We will definitely need a lot more from them once we get into the Big Ten schedule.

    • Yes and at one point was a higher rated prospect in their system than Aaron Judge. It took awhile with the bat but he was always an amazing athlete with the ability for defensive wizardry.
    • Does anybody know that he is an ex Yankee?
    • I put this ridiculousness in the game recap, but I think it belongs here as well.  Using AI you can really make some crazy stuff. 😂 https://suno.com/song/8f21dd9e-af4e-4284-9f23-c566260ca6ce
    • A buddy of mine made this with his AI. I figured I’d just put this here. 😂   https://suno.com/song/8f21dd9e-af4e-4284-9f23-c566260ca6ce
    • I was listening to MLB Prospects podcast last week. They talked about Gillen, and mentioned a lot about how he may be the best high school hitter. However, it’s a tough call where he’ll go because of a weak arm. They said the arm was injured, a right labrum, and his arm strength is not back after two years. So, probably wasn’t going to be a SS anyway when said and done due to size, maybe a 2B/LF or CF profile due to the weak arm and 60 speed. He was projected to maybe become the top high school player in the draft as a sophomore, but injured the shoulder and had some other injuries that have held him back. It is going to be interesting to see where Elias goes with picks 22 and 32. I would like to see Gillen there, but I think he’ll be gone. Kellon Lindsey is interesting, and maybe Billy Amick, along with one of the previous college hitters you mentioned will sneak through. Lindsey is rising fast.
    • A good friend of mine coaches college baseball.  He’s studied and dedicated his career to understanding how humans move. Not all humans move the same way.  An incredible talent could potentially be taught to move against his body’s preference and fail.  New wave progressive coaches understand how various body types work and the nuance to teach/coach them effectively.
    • I'm still trying to figure out how this guy is out of the majors for 7 years and somehow manages to pick up 2 MPH on his fastball, at the age of 34.  But hey, I'm not complaining.   Statcast loves him so far this year.  Statcast thought he was a little unlucky in his last stint in the majors, and unsurprisingly they think he's getting a little lucky now, but even accounting for his good luck he's still in great pitcher territory.
