Elias in the booth.  Is happy with Iglesias, leadership with younger players, brings stability to the infield.

And Iglesias responds with a base hit.

Melewski mentions Ruiz is 10/15 this spring and Elias pretty much dismisses spring stats.  Players are being evaluated by coaches, by scouts, and by technology much more than by spring stats.

Rio strikes out.

Elias talks about rolling out technology across the organization. "we want our pitchers throw the best possible pitch at every point in the count and this technology helps them do that".  We are still catching up with other teams.  Ability to track and measure will make us better at our jobs as coaches.

Pedro reaches on a force.

Scherzer strikes out Mason Williams.

I really like Iggy! Just re-watched his interview from yesterday, seems like a really good guy and a good mentor. I'm torn as to whether Richie Martin should spend of good chunk of the year in Norfolk or if he might benefit more from getting the utility spot and being around Iggy all year. He's definitely going to help all the IFers on the team.

DP 4-3 good play by Hanser.

Elias says Davis situation won't affect Mountcastle.  Extra roster spot this year, plus ability of Mountcastle, Mancini, Nunez to play defensive positions even if they aren't optimal.  He says he thinks having those 4 guys on the team at once is "something we can make work".

Suzuki grounds out to 2B, very busy day for Hanser.  Blach escapes what could have been a bad inning

Pretty amazing considering the entire offseason was a reputation smear on the dude.

Talking about Mountcastle learning to take that 2-0 strike on the outside corner so he can get a better pitch to hit later.  Hays and Mountcastle both are showing a willingness to learn, change, and make adjustments.  "We call it a growth mindset.  Wake up every day trying to better yourselves and to do that you have to know what your weaknesses are".

Going to 5 coaches at every minor league level is unprecedented even Houston didn't do it.  The 5th coach understands the data and analytics especially.

Scherzer fans Yusniel Diaz

Talking about getting pitching stuff in place last year while hitting stuff is getting off the ground this year.  "We still have a lot to learn on the hitting side."

Line drive base hit for Hanser.
