I believe that Elias will largely do what SG is suggesting, but probably not at the level that SG would like to see.  I think he'll sign a starter, but it may be another Milone on a minor league deal.  I think he may add some bullpen help on a similar deal.  And, he'll likely bring in a shortstop on a similar or lesser deal as Iglesias got last year.  I'm not expecting more and don't really want more this year.  When we hit 2022 though, I'll probably be ready to join the "time to spend some money" or make a significant trade crowds.

There is no reason not to obtain talent “a year too early”.

What makes you guys think that FAs are all for a sudden going to want to sign here?  We will have had another crap year and you think these guys are going to be Lining to play here?  Why?

At least this offseason, you can take advantage of the covid situation and get some deals done for less than you likely would have to normally.

Obviously the O's need to build a rapport with the player, his family, and his agent.

That's something that simply offering more money can't compete with.

and what happens if we have some injuries and poor play this year by some of the minor leaguers?  Then what?  You will say we can’t make trades yet because we lack depth.

So, everything is put off another year.  The assumption that is being made is that after 2021, everything is going to be good and we will be set.  That’s a poor assumption to make, just ask the Phillies. The

I asked the Phillies.

They said signing free agents to supplement a core before the core is ready leads to the possibility of having expensive veteran players on a team without a talented, inexpensive core.

But the fans will always have Jake Arrieta's 8-8, 4.61 season on an 81-81 team to cherish.  Also, Bryce Harper's star shone moderately brightly and he'll definitely be around doing something for whatever core they have over the next several decades.
