 Orioles' Top 30 Prospects list

Shortstop Gunnar Henderson, a second-round pick in 2019, improved as much as any player Baltimore’s system this year and could shoot up the '21 rankings. Lastly, the Orioles acquired a pair of Top 30 infielders in Terrin Vavra and Tyler Nevin when they traded Mychal Givens to Colorado.

On the pitching side, Top 100 prospects Grayson Rodriguez and DL Hall, Baltimore’s respective first-round picks in 2017-18, stand out for being high-ceiling prospects in a system that features more upper-level, depth-type hurlers. The Orioles added several of the latter via trades, acquiring Kevin Smith (Mets) and Garrett Stallings (Angels) in separate deals, while also claiming Ashton Goudeau off waivers (Pirates). Overall, the system has more high-end talent and projectable depth than it has in years

With this ranking Elias has achieved the goal he stated when he was hired.   To have a Top 5 farm system.  But he is not done.  He will have  the 5th pick in each round this June.  His approach of not winning in 2021 means he will probably have  high picks in 2022.   That should keep the O's high in the farm system ranking for the next few years.

And if he flips the switch to be competitive after the 2021 season the high pick will probably not be there after the 2022 draft.  The international picks and trading veterans for prospects will have to bring back the most talented minor leaguers along with good scouting of the drafted players to sustain the high farm system rankings

Tampa is doing it.  Elias will try to copy that approach with is own modifications.

NP .... The pain with that list is that the Rays are on top and keep getting better

No doubt. Orioles just have to worry about themselves right now. I’m hoping Boston doesn’t turn it around quick. They obviously will never do what we are doing but they are in an interesting place right now. A big market team will look for spots to make deals. I genuinely think NY’s window isn’t that open as far as being dominant for much longer. Blue Jays are in a good spot.

2023 will be the first realistic year that we can start to “compete”. So if you’re looking at a window of 2023+ then we can add to the system by,

The Draft

- #5 pick in 2021

- Top 5 pick 2022

- Top 10 pick in 2023

Contracts Expiring

- Davis’ contract Expires after 2022 season.

Trades

- Mancini

- Santander

- Means

- Severino

- Armstrong, Fry

Which 3 outfielders better than Santander will be on the roster in 2023?

Elio Prado?   I hope he can make the Shorebirds stateside.   He's five months younger than Gunnar.

Maybe Stowers will be something.

I'm hoping for the 120 HR and 400 RBI from the bird in the hand.

There is a much better chance of Santander being an All-Star in 2023 than either of them being above replacement major league players.
