Interesting fact: Yankees vs. O's offense

The O's are actually outscoring the Yankees 280 to 272 this year.  Both teams have played the same number of games.  I would have just assume w/o looking at the stats, that the Yankees would be near the top of the majors in offense.  O's are 20th in runs and Yankees are 25th (large group of teams have scored 270=280 runs).

Yeah they’ve been surpisingly anemic this year.   It’s hard to explain.   But I hope it continues.

I think the overly simplistic answer is that they are built around the old ball.

If you take out the H2H games, the O's are probably better against the rest of the league.

They also have an almost all righthanded lineup in a stadium that is tailored to lefthanded hitters.

Yep, looks like 609/2577 = 23.6% of their ABs were by LH or switch hitters.   That seems really low.   And it looks like those LH/SH are hitting about .200 as a group, with just 17 HRs in those 609 PAs.

Hicks was terrible and is on the 60 day IL.   Ford was a bust and they traded him.  Ditto for Tauchman.  THey traded for Odor and he is hitting .199.   Gardner is old and fading.

Boo hoo for them!   They’ve had a lot of good breaks the last couple of years, like Gio Urshela being an .850+ OPS guy in 2019-20 after a long .705 career as a minor leaguer (now a little down to earth at .745 in 2021).    If things went badly for them the next hundred years it wouldn’t be enough.

What we are seeing this year is pretty remarkable. Combination of many factors. Mainly underachieving.

That doesn't sound possible.  The bat sliver hit him in the eye all the way at first base?

I need to find some video of that.
