• O's are facing Casey Mize, the #1 overall draft pick in 2018 tonight.  Quite a contrast in styles between the hard throwing, but often wild Mize, and Wells who rarely hits 90 MPH and is known for his lack of walks.
• Jon Schoop is having a good season for the Tigers on his 1 year, $4.5mm contract.   He has become their regular first baseman the past few months, after playing 2nd his entire career before that point.  He could be on the trading block.
• Tiger leadoff man Akil Baddoo is probably in competition with currently injured Oriole pitcher Tyler Wells for the prestigious but fictitious Rule 5 Player of the  Year Award.
• On Friday May 7, the Orioles were 15-16 and coming off an exciting no hitter.  The Tigers were 9-24, with the worst record in baseball.   Since then the Orioles have gone 20-49.  The Tigers since that date have gone 40-31
• The Orioles split 4 in their last visit to Detroit in mid-September 2019.  The Orioles two winning pitchers in that series were Aaron Brooks and Asher Wojciechowski
• Tiger cleanup hitter Miguel Cabrera has 495 career home runs.

Nothing like  having your finesse control pitcher walk the leadoff batter.   Sets the tone...

Do you know, I think there should be a rule five award. Those guys have suffered a lot and suddenly get thrust into the big time, and they deserve some kind of recognition beyond the manager saying, “you made it through the season good for you now we are optioning you to AAA for the rest of your life.”

I had such high hopes for this game with the leadoff triple.  I've since been humbled.
