Like in the fable, “who bells the cat?” You’re assuming that anybody would give up a meaningful prospect In order to unload a contract, I don’t think people are doing that anymore, certainly not for someone who is himself damaged goods, until he proves otherwise.

so sure”if it can be agreed upon.”

But that takes two, and remember the people on the other side of the table know exactly what they’re looking at.

It’s not like he has some injury that is threatening any part of next season.

I didn’t suggest he did. I am in the group that suggests that last off-season affected his performance this year, that he was tired because his cancer treatment interfered with his whole life, not just his baseball workouts.

We were talking about Santander.  You said he’s damaged good right now.

Oh yes he is damaged goods right now, and now is not a good time to trade him. Any team with brains, which is most of them, would acquire him based upon his injury history more than his healthy performance, and his value just won’t be what it would be after two or three months of healthy performance.

We have to assume that when healthy he’s going to play his best, So the most logical thing to do is to tender him, and keep him to start the season, let him build up some value and trade him next July, or when Stowers  is ready. Or maybe not at all.

We’ve had a lot of discussion about Jones, but I still think he should go, and Stewart too. Fry goes. We can lose most of your fringe guys, but keep Smith and Diplan. I don’t think Scott is a contributor at all… too inconsistent. But he’s not going anywhere. Keep Ciuffo or Wynns, whoever is the better defender and damn the offense. That’s 5-7 guys opening up spots.

None of our fringe guys have the slightest bit of trade value. Who in Gods name wants Stewart, especially when it means putting him on their 40?

Yep. I’d lose Stewart & Jones.

Interesting, does this increase the chances that Severino gets tendered a contract for 2022? I'm inclined to think it doesn't and the Orioles might just bring in a veteran catcher to be AR's backup.

I don’t think Severino gets a contract, even if he hits well for a catcher, because Everything else is so bad.

Wynns Was one of the guys I expected to get the ax, but I fully expect Severino to get chopped as well. I am a little curious as to why they didn’t just go ahead and clean house now.

I don’t know how many guys have to be added ahead of the rule five, but I think there 12 to 14 guys who can realistically be removed, and I don’t know why they’re not just doing it now.
