Would you favor being able to trade the 1:1 pick?

Among the major sports, I think baseball is the only one that doesn’t allow the trading of draft picks (with minor exceptions).   With the CBA up, this could be revisited.   Especially considering that we have the no. 1 pick, would you favor a CBA change allowing teams to freely trade their draft picks?

Trading draft picks is a win for MLB in a number of ways.

Yes you should be able to trade picks. There’s no reason not to do so.

I mean, there’s no generational guy at 1:1 this year. I’d trade our 1st for Arizona’s 1st and 2nd. Or something like that

Certainly. And I'd be very interested to see how Elias would leverage that power, given his history of going underslot and spreading out his pool money.

I would have loved to see the O's trade the 1:2 pick to get out of the Cobb contract.

Absolutely! The guy Elias wants is probably 8 or 9 on everyone else's list. Seriously, it would depend on what we get in return, but I'd be in favor.

Personally, I am in favor.   

It's never really made sense, especially now that they've put values on each pick. Teams should absolutely be able to trade draft picks.

Would be really interesting to see how teams play it. Imagine trading up for a Matt Hobgoodor Mark Appel type bust.  Teams could really do some serious damage to themselves with the ability to overpay for 1/1.

The rational I've heard was it was to keep the big market teams from buying high draft picks.

Yes!  This year, Elias could have traded the 5th pick and gotten maybe the 10th pick and maybe a top 100 SS prospect.  Then Elias could have likely picked Cowser at #10.

It seems like it would benefit the O's because their analytics result in a different order of the top draft picks than the experts.  I guess we'll know in a few years if the O's analytics are right or wrong.
