Well this is thread #7.

Anyway before that thread was closed I was thinking Boras would want to steer Tex to Baltimore because of Matt Wieters. Wieters will eventually be the #3 hitter in the lineup IMO so what better guy to protect your client so he gets good pitches to hit than Mark Teixeira.

With no Tex, batters would just pitch around Wieters...

Don't the Yankees scare you?!

Sorry if I'm nitpicking, but Burnett is NOWHERE close to being an All-Star pitcher.

Lets do a thought exercise.

In 2007 and 2008 there were 8 NL all-star starting pitchers and the AL had 6 allstar starting pitchers. link

-------

Who are the 14 all-star starting pitchers?

Who are the sorta close All-Star starting pitchers?

How many more before we get to NOWHERE close?

No. I don't see them spending half a billion dollars this offseason. And they'd be a lot more public with their negotiations.

Boras seems like Tex is going to sign this afternoon, and we know that we have been in negotiations with him hammering out details from one of our insiders. I think Boras was just waiting to see if the Red Sox would raise the bar, but they backed away.

I think it's going to be the Orioles...

McPhail addresses the Tex situation? Or is this from the other day when he said the O's are flexible?

"Though the Baltimore Orioles have also offered Teixeira a contract, their proposal fell short of the others, and those in the industry believe the team is a distant fourth in this horse race. According to published reports, Orioles President Andy MacPhail said the team hasn't raised its initial offer -- though it hasn't ruled out doing so either."

I wouldn't say the Sox are out of this for sure based on how this has been going, at least according to what we know. Could just be a negotiating ploy by the Sox, who knows?

Boras basically told Yahoo that Tex had eliminated them.

Boras offered his impression of the meeting in an email to Yahoo! reporter Tim Brown: “The Boston ownership was kind enough to request and travel to meet with Mark Teixeira. While it was a very positive meeting, Mark was candid and advised he is in the process of making a decision and is now attempting to eliminate teams.”

You think A.J. is one of the 6-8 best pitchers in the AL??

I can definitely name you about 12-15 AL pitchers who are better than Burnett who would make an All-Star team ahead of him next year.

You know, while I can't either... I wouldn't be that suprised. If they did this though, MLB's hand would be forced IMO. No way a team gets tax payers to spend that much money on a new stadium so that a rich team can make more money and then (in turn) go and spend basically 1/2 the cost of that same new stadium on three players.

That's old news, at least in comparison to the rollercoaster of the past day.
