Teixeira watch part IX....The final stages?

The Mets in 92/93 had Eddie Murray, Howard Johnson, Bobby Bonilla, Todd Hundley, Vince Coleman.

So to break that record, we would need 6 switch hitters. Yeah, that won't happen. At least with Tex, we'll have a good amount of switch hitters.

I'm not tryign to bash anyone (becuse I get caught up in it too), but people somehow forget how the "minor" details about a baseball contract. Even the media does this; it's more of an observation that I have seen.

We have seen contracts have opt-out clauses, trade clauses, etc etc. Just because the total dollar figure (say $200 M) is that high, doesn't mean Tex would be getting it all. Over a 10 year deal (using this for example), he could be paid $10 M one year, and then $30 M the next.

We must be able to regard the "little details" about each contract, because, they tend to be very important. Obviously we don't get to hear about these details until after the contract is agreed on. We just have to remember not to believe the total figure as the overall number that Tex would be getting.

I forget where I heard this, but Patton is actually penciled in as a strong candidate to START the season in the O's rotation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard or remember different. I seem to remember reading that Trembley has already said that Patton will start the year in Norfolk.

The lineup isn't all that scary when one of them is Cesar Izturis.

He would be the #9 hitter. I'm perfectly fine with that. I mean, let's be honest, he is our best option. :laughlol:

I really do think that he will be a fine #9 hitter. If he gets on base, the lineup turns over, and, whaddayaknow, another switch-hitter comes up in Brian Roberts.

In my opinion, to say that one guy would hurt a lineup and make them "not scary", is pretty rediculous. Every lineup in MLB has a weak link. If Izturis is that weak link for the O's, then so be it.

Did I miss when Boston said they were back in this thing?

Boston isn't out of it until Teixiera sings else where IMO. They still have the resources to offer Tex whatever it will take to sign him. Leadership for Boston is calling SB bluff.

I personally think the Orioles get this done. Boston I feel is our only threat.

I understand that but this just shows how full of it ESPN is. One day they make Boston dropping out the lead story but then continue to push them as front runners

I'm going to make a bold prediction here, and say that this whole thing comes to an end today, unless it doesn't! :laughlol:

Seriously though, the one thing that bothers me (a LOT) about the "no news is good news theory" is that even if MacPhail is THAT good at keeping things tight within the warehouse, you'd have to think it would be in Boras' best interest to leak the Orioles offer to the media. Boras keeping the Orioles' offer a secret does him no good. That scares me a lot, and makes me believe that what we have heard IS correct and only the 7/140-150 deal is out there.

The ONLY way I am staying positive right now is because I have therorized that last Thursday, Boras told Boston that Tex is going to Baltimore and they are just waiting for an offer. He may have also made the same remarks to the Angels yesterday, and it could be why the Nationals are also not confident in getting him. This theory has too many holes, so that's why I am nervous with the thoughts of paragraph one up there! :o

    • And it happens every year. You would almost think people would stop with the choke comments.
    • I  agree with that  I still wouldn't mind another WR especially if they lose one of the main 3 due to injury. Bateman still scares me but it would be very nice if he's finally living up to his first round billing. What safety or pass rusher are you interest in ? I'm seeing people mentioning Baker from Arizona he would cost a lot.
    • You’re not really allowed to say that. How guys happen to perform for a couple weeks in October is a matter of their character and personal makeup. It’s not random. How the team fares in those couple weeks is the only meaningful measure of its quality and the competence of those who built it. It’s not random. After all, aren’t the storylines all the same things we’d talked about all season? No way CLE and PHI could rely on those shaky bullpens. And HOU and MIL were stuck counting on guys like Hader and Williams to shut down games, recipe for disaster. The LAD pitching would obviously outduel SDP when it counted, and the Tigers made the grave error of relying on someone like Skubal in a winner-take-all against Matthew Boyd. The Yankees are winning thanks to the production of the guys at the bottom of their lineup and by far the best closer in the playoffs. As we all predicted, Bobby Witt, Manny Machado, Luis Arraez, Austin Wells, Josh Naylor are all among the very worst qualified hitters in the playoffs. And expectedly, the best hitters have been guys like Brayan Rocchio, Giancarlo Stanton, Mark Vientos, Jesse Winker, and Kyle Higashioka. And of course, it was basically a dead heat between Dylan Cease and Max Fried for worst SP in the playoffs — and an absolute runaway for Emmanuel Clase as the biggest one-man disaster in the entire playoffs. What’s random?
    • Problem is Cleveland's pitching has been suspect too. If Cleveland can get some better pitching they can push this series to 7 games because Yankees bullpen is getting hit hard. I see Cleveland winning the next game and then the Yankees close this series out in game six back back at the Bronx.
    • Apparently Naylor got under what would have been a 3-run HR. Cleveland should be done, but stranger things have happened. And this NYY pitching is looking mightily suspect.
    • I agree the first round of playoffs there was very little offense in the Wild card and ALDS  but these two series has been ton of runs because the starters are nit giving you even 5 innings.
