NOTE: MINN hosts KC tonight. That game really doesn’t impact ORIOLES. CLE is 76-66. Lead CWS by 3, 4 in loss column. I kept BOSTON’S schedule up and took them off standings.

The following is what it would take for BAL to make playoffs. NOTE: assumes BAL wins tiebreaker vs TOR.

BAL RECORD.                  LEADERS RECORD
15-5                                  SEA 9-11
                                         TOR 9-9

                                         TB   9-10

14-6                                  SEA  8-12

                                          TOR 8-10

                                         TB 8-11

13-7                                 SEA   7-13

                                         TOR  7-11

                                         TB  7-12

12-8                                SEA 6-14

                                        TOR 6-12

                                        TB 6-13

Goes without saying odds are against.

So last night's game with San Diego was Seattle's last game against a team with a winning record.    Until the playoffs.

They would have to really work hard to blow this.

I noted when I started this how weak their schedule was their last 20. SEA went 14-7 vs the better opponents.

Well I’m going to see this thru.

Obviously hope the ORIOLES win as many as possible.  The games for BAL competition looks to be mostly meaningless.. BOS is playing for pride.  NYY should have division wrapped before weekend. TOR games could have meaning. TB won season series vs TOR and SEA. SEA won season series vs TOR. BAL loses to ALL except TOR is still 8-8. TOR would need to be up 4 games before last series in loss column to be meaningless

CLE wound up running away with the ALC. HOU magic number for 1 seed is 3. NYY magic number for division is 3. Looks like playoff seeding battle rest of way.

SEATTLE opened the door but the Orioles did not play well enough to take advantage. Two more wins and they would only be 2.5 back with tiebreaker.

ORIOLES in playoffs if one of following happens. 8-8 tie with TOR.  Assumes Orioles win tiebreak vs TOR. ORIOLES go 3-7 have winning record.

Julio Rodriguez is on IL for Seattle. They have a ton of pressure, haven’t been in playoffs in 21 years. I figured with their schedule they are a lock. Haven’t played well for about a week.

And today they blew a 9-run lead against the Royals.

A lot of work, thanks for putting that together. I believe we should be 4.5 behind Tampa however, not 5.5. Meaning we would have to make up 5, not 6 games. Obviously none of these scenarios are likely. but going 8-2 and Tampa going 3-7 I guess is possible. They do have a very difficult schedule remaining. Would've been great to have not lost the two games this weekend, and not to have lost both games to Detroit. We'd be right in it.

I did make a mistake. I forgot to fix the games ahead. Thanks for seeing that.

We have been in some trouble since the first series vs TOR. SEA tried to let us back in it.

I think going like 8-2 and a TB collapse is the only thing left that will get them in.. really blew it the last 2 days.

TOR will have a berth wrapped up by the time the come to OPACY.

Even w/o JRod SEA schedule is so easy I think they clinch a spot by end of this week as well.

TB schedule very difficult and the only team left I think they could catch.

Sweep Boston, take 2/3 from NYY and TOR. 8-2. Ha! Easier said than done. But I know a good number of us will see it through. Watching the rookies makes it worth it.

Not sealing a win with a 2-run 9th-inning lead Friday and then botching a late-inning and then extra-inning tie game last night while the Mariners got upended by the Royals has cost us our last chance. That's what it feels like. The Mariners and Astros gave us  totally unexpected opportunities after we didn't do as well as we should have against the A's and Tigers. But now the Mariners come home and the Astros have moved on after salvaging the series. Frustrating, but after all we never expected to be contending in late September. Would love to go out with fight and dignity in these closing series against vaunted division rivals. Set the tone for next year.

I did notice yesterday Tampa finished its home schedule and finishes with a roadtrip to CLE-HOU-BOS.     The playoff opponents are probably locked into their seedings though, so just tuning up.

The Trop has been its usual strong help to them this year.

Our half-game separation from Seattle won't clear until the day of Game 161 - it was new to me recently they have a scheduled double header on the next to last day of the season, Tuesday October 4th.

    • It is absolutely possible. In 2022, the Mets gave a QO to Bassitt, Nikki, and DeGrom. The Red Sox gave a QO to Boegarts and Eovaldi. The Yankees gave a QO to Judge and Rizzo. The Dodgers gave a QO to Turner and Anderson. I know that it seems to be a foregone conclusion that Santander will not be on the team after this season, and while I generally agree that it is more probable than not that he will not be re-signed, I do think there is a non-zero chance that he will be retained. I think he is the most likely of Mullins, Hays, and himself to be retained, even if it is a small chance. The team has told us how they feel about his bat because he plays essentially everyday, and I have heard Kostka say that they value his clubhouse presence.
    • Santander won’t get a QO, and if he did, he would accept. His defense is declining and we have too many capable youngsters who should replace him effectively. But to your question, I don’t know if there’s a limit, but I doubt it.
    • O's will probably have to wait till July for a trade because there are so many more buyers than sellers.  I think teams like the Blue Jays, Rays Tigers and Mets are likely to be sellers but they are still in the race although not very good teams as constituted.
    • No Scott. He’s way too undependable. We need someone who WON’T enter a game and walk folks like he’s promoting a healthy lifestyle. He’s been a lot bette4 this season, but he’s too undependable, and we already have too many of those. No Flaherty either. That’s like taking your GF back after she cheated on you.
    • The team's continued success has really put Elias on the spot IMO and I don't see a Flaherty type as an option anymore.  My money is on a sensible trade that comes at a price high enough that most of us here, including myself, won't like, but a premium comes with having bad luck and that's where the O's are at the moment.
    • I would be very surprised if every last one of the GM's Elias talks to about quality starting pitching doesn't start by asking about Westburg and the rest.  Again, I think it's a mistake to believe that the O's have a ton of leverage here.  They certainly have some, and Elias is smart and disciplined, but I don't see any bargains.  I especially don't see the luxury of acting like youth and multiple years of control is any kind of rigid starting point for the O's.
    • I say this as someone who defended Cowser like 2 posts ago, but like his fWAR number is entirely dependent on how much you're buying his defense.  I can totally buy the argument that maybe OAA is overrating him a bit, so he's not really on pace to be a 5.5 win player.  The OAA number is pretty eye-popping.
