Orioles pursuing Wacha?

I like his reverse splits. A lefty would be ideal but there aren’t any great options right now. Reverse splits is the next best thing.

I'm okay with Rich Hill, and I kinda think bringing Wade Miley back on a 1 year deal could pan out this time. Not counting a short 2020, he's been pretty good since he left Baltimore. Also, what's the story with Danny Duffy?

I also wondered if Elias would try to get Keuchel on a milb deal and give him a chance to figure things out in ST and AAA. Mike Minor is also out there, but he's been pretty bad for awhile now. I think thats about it for free agent LHPs

Probably will be a huge meltdown when he signs with a non contender or with a contender as their 6th SP. He’s the last of this tier left. The next tier down is guys that should probably only get NRI ST invites.

Eh.  At this point, I'm kind of indifferent.  I wouldn't be mad if they sign Wacha, but I don't think I'll be too upset if they don't.  They missed their chance when they didn't sign Bassitt and Eovaldi (and Kluber to a lesser degree).

Imagine the reaction here if you could go back in time to mid-October and tell everyone that, before the year is out, the board would be pining for Michael friggin' Wacha 🤣

Injuries and performance issues happen. Last year we had 37 starts from Watkins, Zimmerman, and Baumann. I don’t want to see this team fail like the 2015 team because we’re relying on guys like Tyler Wilson and Mike Wright to start games.

Means and Gibson are FA at the end of 2023. No Clear choices for SP internally for 2024 in the minors in addition to what we have this year as options. Wacha for 2 years makes sense. At worst, he’s a bridge to Means this year, and a good bullpen option/plug in SP after that.

I’m starting to tell myself that a one year Bundy reunion wouldn’t be the worst either. Just to bridge to Means. The LF wall should help with his homer issues to RH hitters.

Wacha is an Aggie and a really good kid. Saw him pitch down in Texas at the time. He'd be a good fit in Baltimore with our young club and the Texas connection with Grayson, would be a great mentor role as well. They both would have been Aggies. Somehow I think that might put us over the top even if only a one year deal.

Is Wacha a better starter than Tyler Wells?  I know he was last year but do you think he will be next season?

The underlying stats and his career history say he isn't and won't be better than Wells. Wacha's 3.32 ERA last season was mostly smoke and mirrors and luck because his XERA was 4.56. He's basically Kyle Gibson with a much worse strike out rate.
