A few pages back CoC said "You should have tons of room to add payroll. "  I have posted a spreadsheet multiple times that disputes that "fact". Revenue has been about $250 M for awhile, Operating Costs are  about $100 M, Expenses are about $20 M about Salaries so about $75 M, that leaves about $75 M which needs to Cover JA's profit whatever that may be. The leftover can be added to $75 M, ME ain't gonna go crazy unless JA accept less profit or Revenue increases.

Considering the man thing we are looking at adding to the team is a front end of the rotation starter that should be plenty of money.

That is of course assuming that they don't have additional revenue, say a one time payment of 30M or the type of increase in attendance one sees when a team start to perform better.

No one was ever (seriously) suggesting the 2023 Orioles would be approaching the salary tax.

Right…so we actually don’t know the real number. We know that this team has operating with a payroll well over 100M in recent years and was ok with it.

Absolutely but those years with salaries in the $140-$160 M range they lost money. PA was OK with that, IMHO JA will never do that. He is trying to show he is a successful businessman after failing at multiple ventures previously (Ft Lauderdale, Fort Meyers, MASN).

So unless you think Elias lied or threw out incredibly insulting deals, you are likely wrong here.

According to the Camden Depot guy, he heard that this was basically the case. Although "incredibly insulting" is of course overexaggerating. They didn't budge on their valuations this year. If they aren't willing to budge on that soon they could have issues. Eovaldi wasn't the guy to do that for. And like Syndergaard with LA, it's believed he had his sights set on TX.

You got to be kinda special to mess up a golden goose like MASN.

An appetizer on the day after as ESPN goes to bold predictions atop the original content.

Gunnar Henderson (3B): Will win American League Rookie of the Year

bal.png&h=60&w=60

The easiest of any of the major award predictions to make is Henderson for AL Rookie of the Year, because when Baltimore Orioles leadership finally allowed him to be promoted to the big leagues, he demonstrated the impact he will have. A rival AL East staffer said this: "Yeah, he's going to be a problem." His athleticism, presence and confidence will make evaluators wonder in the years ahead how he lasted until the 42nd pick of the 2019 draft. -- Buster Olney

Lyles and Frazier (and to a lesser degree Gibson) prove that if they value some metric, then they'll make sure they get it.  It all depends on what they are measuring as a key metric that will impact runs scored/prevented over 162(+?) games.

They didn’t lose money.  Lol

Again, there is money coming in they didn’t report. They are greedy lawyers, they don’t lose money doing anything.

So you are holding onto the idea that the GM that you hold in such high regard, negotiated deals this offseason that weren’t in good faith?  That he would risk pissing off agents and players by throwing out insulting offers?

I don't know if I should be angry or happy about this. I wonder when we had Gasuman if anyone ever thought one day one of the best pitching prospects in baseball would be his comp.

Gausman was a plus fb plus change guy with a crappy slurve.

That's not a bad comp.
