My confidence in GRod is about a 3-4 on a scale of 1-10.

If we’re talking about right this minute, I’d agree.  I still like the long term prognosis.  It’s important for him to be out there learning what works and what doesn’t at this level, and what specifically he needs to do to get better results.  So, I’m living with the frustration.

Tonight will be a big test for him.  Hoping he shows some flashes as to why we should be believers.

I have tickets tonight.  It’s my third game of the year, and all three times, Grayson has started.   Plus, I saw one of his spring training starts.  I’m getting a real good look at him.

The stuff is there.   In my view, he hasn’t been able to throw the two-strike slider that starts in the zone and dives out.  And, his command of the fastball at the top or just out of the zone has been inconsistent.  The change up has been great but he can only go to that pitch so often or batters will start laying off it.

I feel like every at bat of his goes to two strikes, so pitch counts are high no matter the outcome.  And he wastes too many pitches when ahead in the count.

So tonight, I’ll be looking for improvement in those areas.

This is true, I feel like sometimes he gets to two strikes but has a hard time putting batters away.

Is it bad that I'm happy Bautista may not be available tomorrow?

Bautista threw 30 pitches last Thursday, that's why Hyde decided before Saturday's game that he wasn't available. Top of the 8th, up by a run, you don't go with the closing duo because Hyde had already decided, game situation be damned. At the time most defended Hyde as managing for the season but then someone commented, before Thursday Bautista hadn't been used in 4 days. So 30 pitches in 6 days and he can't be used, that's Hyde logic. FWIW

Kremer tonight.

I know Beeks is an opener tonight, but he's got a terrible ERA.  Maybe we can tattoo a few early runs.

Maybe, just maybe, Kremer can get out of the first unscathed and we can actually score runs before the other team for once.

That's pretty much Kremer's resting face/expression anyway.

    • Well said! Like you, I go back to about 1970 and the # of posts someone has is irrelevant to me. The fact that so many on here think there you know what don't stink keeps me, and I'm sure others from joining in more. I know what I know about this team and I don't feel the need to prove myself. And btw the closest that I've ever lived to Baltimore is the very most western part of Illinois.
    • To me none of that matters. Baker was throwing the ball well.  Had spin and velocity.  Go with that. Again, goes to show how many managers don't go by feel anymore and instead just go by what the book says.
    • You will get used to that around here.  The people saying you can't say anything about the Os unless you have played baseball for 20 years or been an Os fan for 50 years.   Bottom line is Baker, as mediocre as he is, was actually throwing the ball pretty well.  His pitches has spin and velocity and he had just struck out his last batter. To take him out for a complete and utter scrub?  And I say scrub in the best way possible?  Was ridiculous. Hyde was playing text book/by the book baseball instead of actually MANAGING BASEBALL by instinct and feels. And he got burned for it.  And it has not been the first time.
    • Brecht has TOR upside.  We’re good at finding #3-#5 types just in developing them, but we need that TOR arm upside and develop.
    • I thought Baker had a better chance of getting a strikeout. Even though he created that mess it looked like he could have worked out of it.  Generally not in favor of bringing in guys for bases loaded situations unless they’re absolute nails and have an extremely high K rate.  Akin’s K rate is higher this year but I still don’t believe he was the better option than Baker.
    • We’ve been picking really athletic types when not picking high in rd 1. Position player wise.   2023 - EBJ, Horvath, Josenberger, Cunningham, Etzel Not that are prior picks haven’t been athletic, if you know what I’m trying to say. We don’t take plodders as position players.
