baltfan
I guess this is a way for Bautista to know they are doing right by him?

I went back and watched the inning that it happened in. He was clearly overthrowing and with his strength it’s not necessary. Hopefully he comes back 100% and throws harder like many after TJ. A gesture of good will by Elias, he’s not arb eligible until 2025. FWIW, his salary on BBref is showing as $730,000. So they gave him a raise which he deserved and covered the period when he can’t pitch. Edited October 1, 2023 by Roll Tide
Roll Tide
Quote "That was kind of the long-term conclusion as soon as we had our arms around the injury and got the imaging and the various medical opinions," Elias said. "That said, everybody involved - and of course to Félix's credit, bless his heart - realized there might be a window to sort of keep his arm throwing, up and running, but we just ran out of time for this to be a feasible and successful option for the postseason, and it's not making sense, so we went ahead and scheduled the surgery." https://www.masnsports.com/blog/bautista-to-undergo-elbow-surgery-next-month
Roll Tide
Quote Though Bautista felt fine after his live batting practice session, the Orioles determined that he wasn't equipped to resume appearing in real games next month. "We're talking about going to play the highest level of baseball in the world here the next few weeks, and just getting him into a competitive state and a recovery state between outings, it was a pipe dream to begin with and it just seemed increasingly far-fetched," Elias said. "But I think it was responsible of everyone, including him, and admirable of him to want to try. He wanted to keep pitching, and doctors thought this might be a case where there was a glimmer of hope we could pull that off. "I think if we had two months left, maybe we could, but we're playing a playoff game here in a week. To bum rush that, it doesn't make sense for anybody. So, we're just going to go ahead and start getting this behind us." More
Roll Tide
More Quote * The Orioles reached agreement with Bautista on guaranteed contracts for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, the latter in his first year of arbitration eligibility. Elias called it "a little bit brighter note."

Osornot
Could be the "first right thing to do" from JA if he was involved. The next step is an attempt to sign/extend 1 or 2 building blocks this winter. Either way, great for Felix - he deserves it. Now, get the surgery and get better - we'll be here
Frobby
Seems reasonable. He’d make a minimum of $1.5 mm over the two years anyway. Don’t know what the arbitrators would do with a guy who missed his last pre-Arb year, but he’d certainly get some bump over the minimum for what he did in 2022-23. Chavez Ravine
I wonder if he is going for full on Tommy John or one of the new fangled repairs? I googled for ten minutes and was none the wiser for what the state of the art is.

I googled for ten minutes and was none the wiser for what the state of the art is. 49ers QB Brock Purdy had UCL repair with InternalBrace. Here’a a summary comparing the two. I’m sure Bautista and his medical team will closely consider the best course for his circumstance. https://www.armoredheat.com/armored-heat-blog/tommy-john-vs-ucl-repair
