Craig Kimbrel 2024

What don't you like? Tate wouldn't be available until game 3 at the earliest, so optioning him for a fresh arm increases the number we have available.

I updated my post, but if Kimbrel can be trusted that he'll be healthy in a day or two then ok. If Kimbrel really is hurt then he needs to go in the IL now instead of screwing around and pitching in pain.

OK, but that is irrelevant to the Tate move.

After leaving with an injury, they have to be proceeding with an alternate plan in mind.  If he's available, fine, but it leaves a lot of room for worry if his availability is decided minutes before or during a game.  Of course, playing the Skanks, that could be a bit of gamesmanship making the determination late- not that it would amount to much in that regard.  Certainly isn't akin to a QB in football being questionable up until gametime.  Nevertheless, if Kimbrel would benefit from rest, now would be the time to give it to him and not later on if an injury becomes more severe with playing "thru" it.

After watching him pitch for the Phillies last year I didn’t want him on the team. He was pretty bad late in the season and in the playoffs.
In each of the last 3 years he’s blown 5 saves out of 22,23, and 24 attempts.
He’s already blown 3 out of 7.

Perhaps we don’t have a better option, though.

Think you mean 3 out of 10. He’s saved 7 games.

Now that I think about it. My faulty math is also incorrect on the other numbers.

He blew 5 out of 27,28, and 29 attempts while saving 23,24, and 25.

I shouldn’t try to crunch numbers after a day of work unless it’s ounces of liquor in a cocktail.

Watching that vs. his last couple of outings was like night and day.  The O’s need to go out of their way to keep Kimbrel fresh.  As I said earlier, no more than 5 outings every two weeks.  If that means someone else needs to close some tight games, so be it.

The Orioles were able to close out wins this week without him, so hopefully it convinces Hyde to not just go to Kimbrel by default when it's a save opportunity.

Avoiding back to back appearances needs to be a priority.
