Win or lose tonight, I've seen enough of Kimbrel in an O's uniform.

Dumping him from the team altogether is a bit much at this point.

But, that's four out of five chances the past two weeks that he's failed to save. Two blown saves, then one excellent appearance, then twice failing to even complete the inning. I'm certainly ready to see him take a break from the closer role, via IL stint or otherwise.

We can disagree. Dude is washed.

He got 2 outs and then the command wasn’t great. Credit to the Nats though, they didn’t swing at multiple close pitches that other players may swing at.

Im not even remotely worried about Kimbrel.  He has done this the last few years.  He has a rough stretch that blow things up but he’s otherwise very good.

Is it safe to say Kimbrel hasn’t been pretty without being chastised yet?  Or are we still clinging to an ultra SSS of success early in season when he was effectively wild in the zone.

He should not pitch anywhere near the 9th inning until further notice.  It's not like he's been facing great teams.  Tonight could be our third loss in less than two weeks due to Kimbrel.

Hyde should have taken him out after the home run.  Failing that he should have taken him out after the first walk.  Suarez should have been ready to come in regardless--Abrams has reverse platoon splits.

Or are you being over the top because of an ultra SSS, where a back injury occurred and he was thrown off his rhythm?

It was 3-1 when Kimbrel was taken out, right?  Akin only needed to get one out before 2 runs scored, correct?

It was 3-2 with runners on first and second. Kimbrel got two outs and then went HR-BB-BB to the 8/9/1 guys.

No, it was 3-2.  He allowed a solo homer.

Move him to the middle innings 5th-7th relief role until further notice. Move everybody else back a notch. Closer by committee until and unless somebody steps up and becomes unhittable. This idea that a team HAS to have that one guy come in for the save every time is just nuts. If you've got 2016 Zack Britton or 2023 Mountain in the pen then sure pencil them in to that spot. But if not then the job goes to whoever can get the outs.

I don’t think saying his pitching “hasn’t been pretty” is over the top.  Seems pretty spot on.  I’d actually up it a bit and say his performance has been down right ugly.
