BTW, who is Billy Boxscore?

Husker fan called me that because I hadn’t seen Povich pitch in person but was relying on stats and scout analysis to form opinions on Povich.

apparently not throwing strikes isn’t a big deal and we shouldn’t judge Povich on that. 🤷‍♂️

In fairness, his point was also that actual observations can provide more value than just reading the box scores and looking at metrics.  You were both entrenched on that thread.

A few days ago, Kevin Brown made reference to the idea that there is some evidence that suggests MLB hitters are hitting the sweeper better. I’m not sure what that evidence is?

I mention this because it sounds like the sweeper is a big reason Fedde has been a better pitcher in 2024 than he ever has been before in the majors.

He has some concerning statcast stats but also some encouraging ones.

I would also be concerned at how good he will be over a full MLB season.

Sure they can..and I never said differently.

That said, when the same issues pop up your entire pro career and the actual results and scouting reports say the same thing, what your eyes see doesn’t trump those things…especially since eyes lie.

I think it is more of a barstool conversation because I can't think of a real world example, but it is in the can't easily dismiss it range for me if Getz combines Crochet and Robert to try and unlock Mayo or Basallo.

Fedde is nearer to a Kyle Gibson regular season type he doesn't move the needle for me considering talents this big.

From those three as the core of the deal, then maybe there's window dressing as Robert makes Austin Hays' role pretty minimal, and figure on the margins we then ask for Brebbia as an upgrade on our Vespi kind of guys.

Crochet, Robert and Brebbia for Hays and Basallo?

Power ranking trade value of individual players one at a time - Mayo and Basallo for me are both ahead of Crochet and Robert.

I don't think Kjerstad alone gets either, but I do think Kjerstad makes a nice Over/Under on the overall future value Elias will move.

Mariners can make the playoffs but probably can't go deep into them without a better offense.

The O's can make the playoff but probably can't go deep into them without better pitching.

Mariners have Castillo, Gilbert, Kirby, Miller, Woo, Hancock and Diaz as starters.

The O's have a bunch of hitters stacked up in the majors and minors.   Not only the hitters at AAA but even Hays could be useful to them if he hits the rest of June and into July.

The O's need  starters not only now but with the injuries into the 2025.

 Mariners starters are mostly in their 20s with years ahead  of them,

I don't have a specific trade but its not only the teams that are out of the playoff race that might be a good match for the O's at the deadline.

Orelvis Martinez, kind of the Coby Mayo of the Toronto org to the extent they have any meaningfully promising players under club control more than another ~1.5 seasons, it was just announced is being suspended 80 games for PED's.

The Blue Jays are riding a 5-game losing streak as they try to avoid being swept by Cleveland before the Guardians come to OPACY tomorrow.

Each of Toronto's top 4 starters has an interesting storyline as possible Orioles.    Berrios the best long hauler, Gausman the prodigal, Bassitt a message board darling, and Kikuchi the simple rental.     How worried is Elias about seeing Kjerstad often in other pajamas?

Can anyone recall whether there were issues between Flaherty and the team or teammates?  Was that just a rumor or was there substance to it?

Tidbits from the caravan gossip: beat writers / coaches / players various news comments. Big shout out to my brother and nephew for the help.

1. PA just breathes and blinks and the team will go up for sale when he dies. It’ll be a long, arduous process though.

2. Elias & Rosenbaum have all the input on lineups. Hyde manages the players.

3. Holliday will start at 2nd on opening day and Mayo makes the team bc he’s playing RF too.

4. Grod was very angry at FO by not making team. They had him change grip on slider and told him ST results didn’t matter bc he was going North.

5. They don’t like Kjerstad’s dad at all. Way too involved.

6. Good that Holmes is gone; and Flaherty hated by teammates;

7. they’ll definitely as some point get Cease;

8. they love Mateo for speed & D;

9. Ortiz, Norby, HK more likely to get traded;

10. Means will be a beast this yr;

11. players love new asst pitching coach;

12. will be difficult to extend Gunnar & Holliday bc of Boras;

13. Jordan Westburg is the one they think most highly of (by far) amongst Westburg/Ortiz/Norby and he thinks Westburg is the Opening Day 3B.

14.  DL Hall likely to be in the bullpen long term.

15. Urias most likely just to get cut (maybe traded for peanuts but not sure if anyone wants to trade even that).

16. Hyde is a players coach, potentially to a fault (as in, he thinks the players walk over him as evidenced by the paltry attendance amongst star players at the Caravans this year).

17.  Dean Kremer is most likely to fade out, particularly if Tyler Wells can rebound.

18. Cole Irvin was one of the nicest guys but was fully expecting to be non-tendered and was shocked the Orioles gave him $2M but still might not make the team.

Lots of misses in that list so I'd take it all with a grain of salt.

Yeah... there's nothing concrete to go off.  I'm writing up a list of potential starter targets and wanted to get that tidbit figured out.  Thanks.
