Well, remember that many saves are blown before the 9th inning. Even in the year where Britton saved 47 and blew zero, the bullpen blew 14 saves. However, there is no question that Britton’s performance was the difference between making the playoffs and not. I’d also say the same of Jim Johnson in 2012 (51 saves in 54 chances). -

Well, I disagree. Please show me the teams that have better options 6-10 for their rotation. As to Vieira, I know you jumped all over the guy because he was bad in his one appearance in Baltimore in a game we won 11-3. I wonder if you’re aware that he then landed in Arizona, where he has a 2.87 ERA in 11 games. Not so obviously incompetent! Bottom line, every single team shuttles guys through the last bullpen spot or two. You seem to have this fantasy that contending teams have 20-25 good major league pitchers and can just replace injured guys with other guys who are equally good, but it ain’t so.

Does Kikuchi make his start tomorrow(today) vs the Rangers? Gotta think all parties involved don’t want that to happen. He could be the next domino because of that. As a pure rental, gotta think he only will cost somewhere in the top 20-30 range at most. -

Good DD. That is amazing. I would never have guessed that. 31 blown saves resulting in 15 losses? Really goes to show you how rare and valuable a guy like a Britton is/was. Literally the difference between the playoffs and not.
