Typically don't see HS kids signing UDFA? Figured he'd go to college, but maybe with the surgery he gets the best access to rehab?

Agreed.  It's unusual for us certainly, but would be great if we could sign him.  Would be nice to have a high upside young arm in the system.

Brilliant move by both sides.

This kid had elbow surgery and has zero idea how he will recover from it. He may be taking English classes in 2 years and never pitches again, so why not get paid and get into a pro org and work with them and their rehab team?  And if all else fails, you get 55-75K after taxes that can help you with school or whatever down the road.

If you are the Os, this an expensive scratch off ticket.
