When does Povich come back and who gets sent down?

Recommended Posts

Povich was optioned on July 13, so he would be eligible to return Tuesday or Wednesday to take his turn in the rotation.   Do the Orioles bring him back on schedule or do they take advantage of the day off and skip his turn?

And who goes to make room?  My vote is to option Bryan Baker.  He hasn't been consistent and I'd like to see a little more of what we have with Birch Smith and Vinny Nittoli.

July 27 vs. San Diego for the next Povich start was always the plan from the moment the move was made.

It was done initially since we didn't need a starter at 5 days from the last Povich start All-Star Break), and we don't need a starter tomorrow at 10 days from the last Povich start (off day)... and at 15 days (7/27), he's eligible to come back from the minors.

Pitchers are 15 days, not 10.

Remember they have that DH vs Jays next Monday. Possible return there?

We need a 5th starter before that day, so he'll be up July 27 as others have said.

For that doubleheader, we will need a 6th starter because we have no off days between tomorrow and August 5.   You can bring up a guy to go to 27 men for a doubleheader and then send him back down immediately, so I expect that will be McDermott.

Is he eligible by the 27th?

Official transaction page has him sent down on the 13th. I don’t think he can come back until the 28th at earliest.

I still wonder if Irvin is not used today if he doesn’t start in Miami.

    • He probably had 2+ weeks against live pitching in Florida and now 3 weeks against A and A + pitching.   It’s possible that it’s just rust and timing.   Didn’t seem to effect Anderson, Stafford, Overn, and O’Ferrall that much who all pretty much hit right away in Delmarva.
    • Honeycutt only struck out 20% his sophomore year but he also hit .257 with 12 homers.  But, at least we know he made adjustments in college and tried to make more contact before reverting back to what worked better for him in college. I don’t think his performance is a “nothing burger”.    It might not be the worst thing though.  I would suspect that Honeycutt might be more open to making whatever changes the Orioles hitting instructors have in mind. I do think, even this fairly SSS is further confirmation that Honeycutt needs some pretty significant swing/setup/approach changes that some evaluators were suggesting pre-draft.
    • Think Stanley was called for FOUR illegal formation penalties? Ravens need to figure this out.  Either Stanley is real bad at his job or the refs are real bad at theirs.   Or coaching or all of the above.
    • At the time of the trade, I’d agree with your description of Johnson and Chace.    It’s kind of scary how each was promoted and put up really good numbers (SSS) at the next level after the trade.  Each, are among the few pitching prospects we have in the upper minors that actually sit mid 90’s. My fear is that in hindsight this trade is going to look a lot, lot worse than it did at the deadline.
    • Stop crawling up their tailpipe and you won’t get brake checked.
    • Someone on the O's staff thinks they can make Rogers into an asset.  They would not have traded for him otherwise. Agree with this. Let the trade play out. Has to be some other plan than 4 Sh*t starts and a demotion. Sans injuries he probably no more fit into this Post Season than Norby or Stowers. Maybe he can be a future piece.
    • You know what drives me crazy? Mosquitos. Also people who put their brakes on for no reason when you're behind them.
