People like Soto are for short term needs. You bring up top prospects on their schedule. Dipping your toe in the water, unless you start out hot is not a good system for adjusting to the big leagues. 17 AB for Mayo and 32 for Holliday. At least Holliday got the message of go back and work on this. Mayo got 10 days to work on what?

Mayo literally said his time in Baltimore gave him some insight into where he needed to improve. 

 

Now, it's debatable if his time in Norfolk was enough to impact him or not . Only time will tell.

I reckon it was more of a function that Eloy was hitting and Mayo was not, and there’s only so many ABs to go around to bat only hitters. 
Mayo isn’t going to turn into a pumpkin coming up, getting a short cup of coffee, going down for a couple of weeks and then coming up when rosters expand. He’ll be better for it.

The world does not revolve around prospects. Cowser and Kjerstad bounced around depending on when the team needed them, and ROY eligibility was a consideration. At this level these guys should be professionals and understand they have jobs to do 

Are you suggesting he should stay down longer to work on things? Or he never should have been sent down?

I’d say we don’t know enough or have enough information to determine that Mayo can’t play RF.  I’d say he probably has the tools to do it but it’s more than just running and throwing.   We have no idea about his instincts or ability to read balls off the bat.    Do you have any information at all about Mayo’s running speed or anything at all that would preclude him from being a competent RF?
