While I agree with the premise, those guys are fewer and farther between these days. We are in an era of lovey dovey and jersey-swapping. There aren’t many rivalries, outside of padres-Dodgers, where the players really hate each other.

What we need are competent, professional, consistent hitters. Watching the playoffs, I'm seeing teams with plenty of those type of players. The Orioles need some upgrades. IMO, this offseason will be make or break for Elias.

The playoffs are a random number generator. Four division winners have already been booted. There’s no strategy to deal with the playoff structure. It’s a lucky, get-hot-at-the-right-time system right now.

I still think Soto (Juan, not any of the others) checks off all the boxes here.  Insanely productive, plays hard, can rub opponents the wrong way on the field but is generally liked off of it.
