No question about it, that is a balk.

Atkins just infuriates me anymore. I wasn't as critical of the signing or his play thus far as many have been, but dammit, he is the epitome of waste of money.

Might as well treat him like a pitcher. If there is a runner on when he comes up, he can just bunt, regardless of the situation. He's a bum.

I believe the reason he was called for a balk was because he was pitching out of a windup rather than the stretch. If he was pitching from the stretch he could step off the rubber, but in the windup it looked as though he started his windup by stepping off. You don't see that called often is because most pitchers pitch from the stretch with men on base.

The ump sounded so excited that he got to call a balk. "That's a BALK! RIGHT THERE!"

Was it the home plate ump who called it? That's Balkin' Bob Davidson, after all. Every time a balk is called against the Orioles, he somehow seems to be involved.
