When (If EVER) Will The Orioles Get a Hitter Like This?

I posted that a while back on this thread. Great mnds think alike!:clap3:

:D Sorry, I read a good bit of it before posting but should have read it all. There were many options, but they made too much sense for them to happen. We will only have $49M on the payroll going into the offseason, which means that at least $25M will be spent. Should be fun to see how they mess it all up this time. Why does this team never listen to people outside the organization? By simply reading a few fantasy articles prior to the season I was told numerous times that:

Gonz has injury concerns and has not closed before, draft with caution

Atkins was benched hitting in one of the most hitter friendly parks in baseball, could have a resurgence but not likely, leave for the waiver wire

Miggy could have potential as he is a .300 hitter that is slated to bat cleanup, but will likely struggle transitioning to a position he has never played

Reimold is recovering for a tough injury, has power potential but is a risky play considering the nature of the injury

Weiters has all the ability in the world but will likely need one full season before tapping into his real potential

#1 If you are going to spend serious money on a closer, get a serious closer! There were numerous real closers on the market: Soriano, Valverde, Capps and we avoided them all

#2 There was nothing that would make someone think Atkins was bound to be the answer after a long and steady decline and leaving Coor's.

#3 Miggy actually made some sense and has worked out fairly well

#4 Do not count on someone who is injury prone and never put in one full season

#5 With the DH spot available, perhaps a vet catcher made some sense.....ugh. Meanwhile, SF thinks this logical statement is logical and bring back Molina.

Can we please just be logical for one offseason?

Are you also going to ignore Vlad's stats in Texas, which is like hitting in Coors field?

We have no idea how Vlad would have done here.

Our park is not exactly hitter friendly. What we do know is that we spend 1M less for Atkins.

LOL...You think we would have gotten Vlad for that contract?

Wow....I have some swamp land to sell you...I swear, its a great piece of land!

I'm done. Perhaps one day we can have a proactive conversation about decisions that would prevent what has happened for more than a decade. Which is something I care about and like to talk about. I could care less about your sarcasm and swamp land.

Superb post and all your points are valid and spot on. To answer your question in your final sentence the answer is a resounding NO, unless Angelos either sells the team or sees fit to do a complete overhaul of the organization replacing just about everyone, including MacPhail, all the coaching staff, Stockstill, all of the scouts and director of player development and drafting genius () Jordan. As some else has posted: CLEAN HOUSE!

    • Starting point has changed.  Given the fact he has approx 1/7th of his season in the books at 1.139, to OPS just .780 for the season, he'd have to drop off to under .730 the rest of the way.  That sort of drop off wouldn't be acceptable to me. I'd like him to OPS .800 the rest of the way for roughly .850 for the season.  The more they use him in a platoon role, the better I think that number might be.
    • Can I ask how you timed it vs the DVR?  Did you use a stopwatch or count click with pause/FF, or something else?
    • I can’t fathom why anyone would want a Tanner Scott return. In 10 innings, he is 0-4 with a 1.78 whip. He was maddening before, and now he’s older. But I wonder if the Red Sox would part with Justin Slaten? He’s been pretty outstanding. Yeah, only 8 innings, but we hired Yohan Ramirez, and he’s been a catastrophe in 10. Yes, I know he’s a rule 5, and the Bosox are in the East. And their pitching is pretty thin, too. But they know they aren’t going anywhere in this division, and they might think getting a good return for a Free Rule 5 guy might be worthwhile.
    • This draft unfolded weirdly.  First with the *nix guys getting taken early and then how no defensive players got taken all draft, and then a bunch of teams reaching for OTs.  I'm pretty happy with how the draft unfolded because I think we got a player that I expected to be gone by the teens or early 20s.  I don't know what we're doing with our OL but hopefully we can maybe trade up from 62 to pick someone up.
    • I have it on dvr and I timed it four times. I got 10.75, 10.80, 10.74, and 10.78.
    • This is exactly what EDC said tonight
    • My guess is more of a safety profile than they preferred. They clearly wanted Wiggins. They ran that pick up fast. And then when you listen to the press conference, the love for the player was obvious.
