vs. ATHLETICS 5/28

.

I saw Tillman pitched tonight. I felt that there were 4 "games within a game" for him tonight:

A. He looked very good for the first 3 and 2/3 innings.

B. With 2 outs and a runner on first base in the 4th inning, Tillman was coasting. Then he walked a batter on four pitces. Then he walked the next batter as well. Then he gave up a 2-run single. Fortunately, he got the final batter of the inning on one pitch.

C. After the bad 1/3 of an inning in the 4th, Tillman looked very good again in the 5th with a 10-pitch inning.

D. In the 6th inning, he reverted back to the way that he was pitching in the final 1/3 of an inning in the 4th. With one out, he walked 2 more batters, gave up a single in between, and was tagged for a 2-run double, which ended his day. Fortunately, Chris George came in to get the last 2 outs of the inning with runners on 2nd and 3rd and only one out to prevent any further damage.

Other than that, Chris had his usual huge breaking ball working well for him. Overall though, it was a disappointing outing after a very promising start.

Outman. Great baseball name, there.

Love the move by Buck to put Reynolds at first and get Adams in there at second. Neither Fox nor Scott can hit lefties worth a crap (or haven't so far this year), so moving Reynolds over both eliminates a hole in the line-up and allows us to get a look at Adams. Nice to see some line up creativity.

I have a strange feeling that Andino is not only going to lead the game off with a bunt attempt, but he actually is going to succeed in getting it down for a base hit.

Optimist, an impressive skill in the face of 13 years of futility, kudos.

At the least, it looks like we'll get this one in, just maybe not until after 11 PM.

Oh well, it's beer o'clock anywho!

Anyone have a stream? MLB tv says black out, I am at a hotel which does not have MASN.

Bummer, MLB is totally extreme on this. I cancelled MLB.TV for my son because he lives in Blacksburg, Va and does not get cable. Masn is available on his cable, so MLB.TV blacks out the broadcast, I cancelled them. As many games as MLB plays, tightly controlling viewership is not wise.

Use a proxy when connecting - once it's streaming you can switch back to your connection. "Proxy switchy" for chrome works great. Proxy-list.org is a good site - look for a 100% uptime anonymous/ssl proxy server. PM me if you need help.

    • He is not the answer by himself, but along with Westburg and maybe Kjerstad, you'd be upgrading the bottom of the lineup who are all automatic outs to average or better hitters. We dominated the league with Gunnar plus a bunch of .750-.800 guys. Yes, we need at least a couple of Cowser, O'Hearn, Adley, and Santander to pick things up. But every bit helps and right now Urias we would be a massive upgrade over what we're getting from Holliday.
    • Question for all of you corporate types: If you owned this "company," what's your next step?  Perhaps even more importantly, what do you do in the off season?  Based on performance, the team is competitive. I think most pundits have the team as 99% likely to make the playoffs. However, I think the NYY are favored to win the division. by those same pundits. At the start of the season, the goal was to make the playoffs. Mission likely accomplished for the second year in a row. That's in spite of a vicious injury bug.  However, there is an old saying in business that if you are not improving, you are going backwards. This team does not appear to be improved from 2023. What do you do about that?  IMHO, this is a pivotal off season for the O's. Lots of important decisions to make. Plenty of salary flexibility. Many of the young star prospects have gotten their feet wet. It seems rather clear that the existing player assets are rather well defined.  It should be an interesting winter.
    • I saw this scrolling on Instagram and just assumed it was a joke.  Guess I was wrong
    • I doubt there will be a change but I'm sure it would be someone who is on the Elias/Sig train of thinking.
    • Norby was on a heater that got everyone overreacting. I hope he has a long MLB career. But he is also 0 for his last 17 now with 7 k's. People want to ignore that though to fit the narrative.
    • Is Urias an upgrade over Rivera? Sure. But I dont think hes anyone thats going to change the trajectory of this team. He was awful for 80% of this season, then turned it on the last month or so. Hopefully he comes back and is that person from August. Kjerstad should be back, but based on what we've seen in the past, he wont play. Hyde has had him and Mayo on completely different playing schedules than the other young guys. O'Hearn is just showing who he is unfortunately. Exposed in an every day role. He was best in the platoon DH and sometimes 1B role.
    • You might get Urias and maybe Kjerstad. what they need more is guys that are here doing better, Adley and O'hearn snapping out of their months long slumps. Any contribution from Holliday, Mayo and Jimenez would help too.
