That stupid Green Monster.... the early inning high balls that caromed off the monster for a long single would've both been a HR in OPACY. The Sox haven't hit any like that, so all their outfield hits would have still been ordinary hits at OPACY (or ground rule doubles with that warning track made of silly putty).

Lackey's still tossing fat balls and working into big counts, but we can't hit him despite the fact that he's running out of gas?

I think it must be something like this. A club gets a certain number of "Power Points" from the baseball gods, randomly chosen at the start of the game, with a minimum and maximum number of power points based on the overall team skill level, luck and karma. The power points then get distributed between offense, defense, and pitching.

The Red Sox get randomly assigned between 60 and 100 power points. The Orioles get randomly assigned between 3 and 61 power points.

The first two games, the Orioles randomed about 12 power points, 10 of them assigned to offense, one each for defense and pitching. The Sox got their 80 points distributed 20 into pitching, 30 into offense and 30 into defense.

Tonight, the Orioles randomed about 50 power points: 35 into pitching, 15 into defense and 0 into offense, with the Sox randoming 60 power points: 30 into pitching, 10 into offense and 20 into defense.

They always overpower us, but because our offense invariably suffers when our defense and pitching pick up (because we only have so many power points, y'know), it basically guarantees that we'll get shut out tonight because we have such success at pitching and even defense (no errors yet!).

I'm thinking 6 complete Nate...what do you think despite what Ellsbury just did?

I don't know exactly. He hasn't thrown 100 pitches yet this year (I believe). 6 would be awesome and certainly more than I would have expected from him tonight.

Ortiz must have given Ellsbury a step by step approach to taking steroids.

You know. Thats exactly how it happens. Casual conversation. A little banter and then they are off to a bathroom stall together pulling down each others pants.
