How can this signing possibly irritate any Oriole fan. He's signed to give him a shot in the minors, if by some chance everything clicks, maybe just maybe he makes a small impact someday, if not so what.

You're right in a lot of ways. But who have we signed from the scrapheap or traded under the radar (other than Guthrie) who has "clicked" and made an impact?

"Other than the guy we got off the scrap heap who made an impact, what guys have we got off the scrap heap that have made an impact?"

But anyway, depending on your definition of scrap heap (and impact):

Robert Andino was acquired for Hayden Penn

David Newhan

Todd Williams (2004, 2005)

Tim Byrdak (2005)

Steve Trachsel

There's probably more but all of these guys contributed, at least as bit players for a year or two. And really, when you're talking about borderline guys and AAAAers, there's not much more you could ask for. Not every Rule 5 is Johan.

The Orioles have always scraped the bottom of the player barrel. Now they're obviously digging under the barrel grabbing injury prone guys, Stuart Pomeranz and Nick Johnson. who leaked out the bottom.

I'm seriously starting to wonder if Duquette even remotely has a clue?

Yes that is the plan to purposely sign the worse players possible. Why don't we wait until at least one game is played under the Dan Duquette era before we surrender?
