I like McLouth

I'm glad we brought this guy up. Heads up baserunner, good defense, good hitter. I'd prefer to see him in the lineup more often than Lew Ford.

Looks good to have someone wearing #9 racing around the bases again ;)

Totally agree. I am not sure what kind of offensive numbers McLouth will end up with but considering what we have gotten out of LF this year its not going to be significantly worse even in the worst case scenario. At least with McLouth you know your getting a guy who hustles, plays a solid defensive OF, can slide to CF when needed and when he does get on base he is dynamic and has the potential to be disruptive. Optimally would love to have a guy like him as a 4th OF but given the options it makes sense to roll with him now.

I will be more than peeved if Hoes isn't our starting LF out of spring training.

Ehhh, I dunno...I'd be pretty concerned if Hoes is handed a starting job in the majors right now. He is having a great year but at this point he is depth and will get his chance due to someone else being ineffective or getting injured.

McClouth was a freaking Major League All-star for a reason!

He hit for average, had blinding speed, played gold glove caliber defense and was a heck of a leadoff guy.

Obviously he isn't THAT guy anymore but quite frankly, we don't need him to be THAT guy. What he's been for us so far, a platoon outfielder playing above average defense and giving us some production from the end of the lineup is as much as we could possibly ask for.

I agree with others, send Ford back down, call Steve Johnson back up in his place, go with a shorter bench until the Rosters expand and then bring up Hoes and platoon them in left. But regardless, McClouth has been awesome and is yet another guy you can add to the list of smart, cheap pickups during the offseason by DD. Underrated, under the radar moves like the ones he has made are how you put a winning season together.

Love it.

Yep, I like McLouth too. He is certainly light years better than Endy Chavez as a 4th outfielder. He can play all three OF positions well enough, he runs well and he swings the bat a little too. Nice pick up for DD right here.

I agree, He will be a really good fourth OFer when we get Nolan back next year.

He is a fantastic player of good, fundamental baseball.

I think it's pretty impressive, the amount of new and often unexpected talent that has been suffused into the Orioles from unexpected sources. I don't really follow the minors, so maybe it isn't so surprising. Most of the rotation is completely different than it was at the beginning of the season, and half of the lineup is different. Having enough depth that we can argue about who gets to play left field (McClouth? Reimold? Avery? Hoes?) in 2013 is a nice problem to have. The importance of having Q at 2nd can't be overstated, as well.

I like Nate, too. Cool name.

But let's not get too crazy here. This is the very same guy who was 3.5 wins below replacement from 2010 through the moment the O's acquired him. Has it been determined why he was one of the very worst players in MLB for the past two and half years? What happened? Are we reasonably sure he's fixed what ailed him?

Maybe it's just part of the wackiness of the '12 Orioles, but they're winning with this guy batting #3:

Lowest WAR total over the past three seasons - and don't blame WAR, he stunk!

What I like most about the acquisitions of players like Quintanilla, McLouth and Ford and the promotions of Machado and Ford is the significant improvement that I've seen in the defense. We don't have the mess at third that we had with Betemit and Reynolds. Left field is solid. And, Q has settled in at 2B and platoon there with Andino. Add Gold Glove potential with C/Wieters, CF/Jones, RF Markakis, and even SS/Hardy and we've gone from a horrid defensive team to one that should be fairly solid for the rest of the season.

The addition of Gonzales has also been very important to not only keeping our heads above water but improving over the last month. If Hammel can come back healthy and return to form, this team should be able to make some noise over the last month of the season.

Some of Duquette's moves have failed to work out - Thome, for one - but you have to admire his boldness. We have much to thank MacPhail for (Jones, Tillman, Hardy, Davis, drafting and or signing Wieters, Machado, and Bundy), but I seriously doubt he would have been bold enough to promote Manny or to make the sheer number of moves that Duquette has to improve the team inch by inch throughout the season.

This is why you sign those guys to minor league deals. Tejada, Moyer, McLouth, Romero. Not all of them are going to work out, but if just one of them do, you did alright.

So far McLouth is the one guy that could be a huge player for us down the stretch.
