His doctor said the surgery went as planned and that the cartilige damage in the hip was minimal. Minimal cartilage damage means "they wouldn't have to do a microfracture (procedure) or anything where they are trying to regenerate areas where the cartilage has worn away," said Dr. Derek Ochiai, an orthopedic surgeon and hip arthroscopy specialist in Arlington, Va. "That will mean his rehab has the highest chance of successfully getting back to the level with his hip that he was before his hip started hurting."

While a full recovery is expected, it was a major surgery and like any other surgery that goes well, there is no written guarantee that the healing process and rehab will go off without a hitch. So what Cashman is saying is factual; there is the possibility that Rodriguez could be out the entire year. Nobody can predict when Rodriguez will be back; whether it's 6 months or the All-Star Game or 2014.
