I agree. There is a difference between being slow and being a good baserunner. Cal was slower than dirt, but he was a good baserunner because he got good jumps, took the bases at the right angles, etc. JJ is the same way. Nick is slow and also not a good base runner, for whatever reason.

He was about a -3 run baserunner in 2014. A bit below average. But better than De Aza. Maybe the 60th-worst baserunner in MLB, and that was in 700+ PAs, so he's probably not in the bottom 100 on a per-game basis.

Nick has been a good baserunner most of his career. This year, he was unbelievably conservative in trying to take an extra base. Here is the percentage of extra bases he has taken in his career (2 bases on a single, 3 on a double):

Nick has been a good baserunner most of his career. This year, he was unbelievably conservative in trying to take an extra base. Here is the percentage of extra bases he has taken in his career (2 bases on a single, 3 on a double):

That extra muscle he packed on this past offseason, coupled with some age and the baby-daddy factor.....:scratchchinhmm:
