But once the first one is ashore it is no longer a deserted island. :P

It sucks for Maryland but I don't expect better from the committee.

Being a 4 seed would have been somewhat ok (not really) if they hadn't put us in Kentucky's bracket. Wonder if there were some ACC people on the committee who didn't appreciate MD leaving.

Toughest bracket certainly. I'll look at it like each win will be even sweeter as each one was even harder earned.

When they get to the Sweet 16 then they can show the Harrison twins what they have missed out on.

One of the committee guys, Scott Barnes, is being interviewed on CBS. Gottlieb said he was confused about MD and GTown being equal seeds. Basically said the committee thought highly of GTown because of the "eye test". LOL!

The eye test? What a joke. This is why us Maryland/Baltimore guys always feel like everyone's against us. It's crap like this.

Beating Kentucky would be an unbelievable win. We just don't match up very well against them. They're huge.

I guess the committee hates the Big Ten and has a hard on for the Big 12. But if that's the case, why is Wisconsin a #1 and why is Indiana in the tournament?

The first step was putting an end to the long losing streaks. Consistently winning again will bring back some of the respect (the O's are in a different situation because even if they keep winning this year it could all change next year because of the free agent situation).

I'm pretty sure Kentucky could make a pretty solid team in the NBDL. The Terps have nothing to lose now. Let's hope they wreak some havoc in the best bracket.

I've always thought they gave too much weight to a teams history/name.

I don't care about what ESPN and CBS have to say about college basketball because of stuff like this. All of the commentary predictably states that the committee did a good job, while MD/Georgetown get the same seed, a 10 loss team has a 3, Iowa State has a 3, UCLA and Ole Miss are in the tournament, etc. What a horrible bracket overall, you cannot reward teams for playing in a good conference when they are within a game of .500 in conference.

    • The money is sunk at this point, but I don't think any polar answer is optimal here.  Bullpen by committee until someone emerges.  It's a little more difficult with the 3-batter rule, but that's how they need to roll and I credit Hyde for being ready with the quick hook for the last 10 days or so.
    • Great sequence in the 10th where Mateo singled, driving in Westburg, stole 2nd and went to 3rd on the overthrow.  Then Mateo scored on a wild pitch.  I've joined the Mateo fan club, at least as a utility player.  Having Mateo on base has to drive pitchers crazy.
    • As someone that was all for DFA’ing McKenna for Hicks last week, I really can’t fault him for tonight.   I’m impressed he stole the base. He sort of had to run there with two outs. He stole it. He just came off the bag. That happens.  The route may have not been the best because he was going to his left and as a RH thrower he was just trying to position himself to throw home. He doesn’t have Vlad Sr’s arm out there. That’s a .01% chance play there.  Our CF depth is pretty thin. I think the only way we DFA McKenna is if Hicks comes here. Kjerstad will be the one to go for Hays. Remember last August when at full strength/healthy Mullins, and only a 26 man roster, we rolled with a 4 man bench of McCann, Hicks, Mateo, Urias/Frazier/Westburg.  Oddly, we’re deep enough into the season, and CF depth is thin, that I’d say there’s a 50/50 shot McKenna doesn’t clear waivers. I don’t know we have the luxury of CF depth to DFA him w/o Hicks in the mix.
    • I think they will DFA him. They already did it once. And the fact nobody claimed him means you’re probably right about not starting for other teams.
    • I had fun watching the extra innings of this game. That was good TV. Thanks Craig for serving up the evening’s entertainment!
    • Additionally, you can hover over the user name you want to ignore and a box pops up. The last button on the right at the bottom is the ignore button, click that and check all three boxes and you're done. Source: I'm a professional ignorer.
    • We have threads asking for Kremer, Grayson, and Povich in the closer role. Can we acknowledge that Cano is the pretty obvious next man up if Kimbrel is removed at some point? I don’t really care about his 9th inning splits. He’s our best reliever and until he gets a chance and fails I’m going to assume that’s just noise and he’ll do the best job. Tonight makes nine straight appearances with either a Save or Hold. Overall he has held a lead 10 times in 11 chances, and the one miss was a bad outing but still nearly a SV if not for Gunnar’s walk-off throwing error.
