It's time for David Lough to step forward

The O's leadoff spot and left field are wide open. De Aza is hitting for a.265 OBP.

Buck said yesterday when asked about Manny batting leadoff "If not him, then who?" David needs to step forward and be the answer.

This is why Lough was acquired last year. He was supposed to replace Nate McLouth but Lough had a concussion early and couldn't take advantage of the opportunity.

Since coming back from a hamstring problem that cost him a trip to the DL Lough has put up a 308/357/538/896 in 13 at bats so far this season.

Its time to see what David can do. Let's see if Buck gives him the opportunity and if David is able to respond with positive results.

Besides the beginning of last season, when else has he really had a chance?

Wasn't there a period last season when he came off the DL and was given a chance before Pearce went nuts? I feel like he got two legit chances last year.

Well I'm definitely all for giving him another shot. With the spotty defense from Snider, the mental mistakes from De Aza and the inevitable lost defensive runs from Delmon wearing a glove, one would think Buck would be eager to have Lough's glove in the lineup daily.

I'm just glad we have backups

Dear lord...

RZNJ and Wildcard are two of the best posters on here. Without them, I probably wouldn't be on here as much as I am. Having said that...."sigh".

How many "give Lough another chance" threads do we need?

Let me get this straight. Regarding Paredes you assume that the O's know better by not playing him in the field (which is probably correct) but when it comes to Lough they don't know what they are doing?

Let me let you in on a little secret. Shhhh...come closer..psst... Lough isn't very good. That is why he doesn't play more. LOL.

This is a big leap for me...but I will say it...I think I would rather see more of Lough than Snider.

I don't think he's too anxious but Buck will ride a hot hand when it presents itself.

And I doubt there's a man in the clubhouse who doesn't trust bucks decision making.

Well, he's obviously not bright enough to see that Lough's WAR metrics will save us a billion runs.

Rene, you are right. There have been many 'give David Lough a chance' threads. But not by me. I am normally the guy writing that David is on the bubble. But with the leadoff and left field spots wide open it seems a match for Lough to get playing time.

Buck may see left field as a spot to rotate guys in and out. I don't know what Buck will do. But he has given others chances when there were openings. Maybe Loughs chance is coming.

I will be the first to agree, it does seem a bit baffling.

I do disagree with Rene, if Lough wasn't any good, then, he wouldn't be on the roster. Buck clearly doesn't keep guys, that doesn't fit into his clubhouse or his mold of what he is doing.

Buck said, he would play the guys that earn the play, and I am not sure I agree that he is doing that.

I think Buck sees Lough as a pinch-runner and defensive replacement who can start every once in a while and give AJ a breather if he needs it. I think that's a legitimate role on this team. His spot is made a bit precarious because we don't seem to have an everyday corner outfielder. Getting a guy Buck can pencil into LF or RF every day seems to me to be the next logical move. Eliminate some of the De Aza/Pearce/Snider redundancy and Lough's role becomes clearer.
