from MLBTR:

When he formally joins the Phillies, reported new executive Andy MacPhail could spend some time evaluating the baseball operations department before deciding whether to make any changes or additions to the front office, MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki reports. One possibility, per a source, would be for MacPhail to try to bring on Angels assistant GM Matt Klentak in some capacity. The young executive got his start with the Orioles when MacPhail was in charge there. Klentak was a guest on the MLBTR Podcast’s third episode, back in October.

It was either resign now or get fired at the end of the year

The MacPhillies?

Just like Sandberg to quit in the middle of a season.

Or, just like MacPhail to have the manager removed just before he takes over? Remember, the O's fired Perlozzo right before announcing MacPhail's hiring.

If my memory is correct Jim Duquette and Flanny held a press conference announcing the firing of Perlozzo when the MacPhail news broke. Very odd and typical dysfunction at the time for the Orioles.

I wonder what kind of relationship Sandberg and MacPhail had when they were in Chicago together?

Andy MacPhail will be named as Philadelphia team president at 2:30 PM today. Pat Gillick will stay on through this season in an emeritus capacity. Ruben Amaro Jr. will be evaluated for transition throughout the remainder of the season.

The trading may now begin.
