vs. WHITE SOX, 7/04

pretty sure the 1919 Sox weren't really trying very hard to score...

That is a very long, complicated story, of which I am extremely familiar with.

I actually talked to a man in 1996 just before he died that was 16 year-old White Sox fan at the time, and he went to one of the games.

What actually happened is much different than many would assume, including the play of the White Sox on the field, as well as the off-the-field activities.

The other 7 1919 Sox position players...not so much

Not true.

First of all, there were 2 starting pitchers, 5 starting position players, and one reserve infielder that were implicated in the fix ...... not all position players.

Secondly, Buck Weaver, who never took a dime, batted .324 in the series without making an error, similar to Jackson's .375 without making an error.

Jackson and Weaver both played to win.

Eddie Cicotte pitched 3 games, lost the first 2 intentionally before winning Game Seven after it was clear that the gamblers had double-crossed his teammates, and paid them much less than they had promised to.
