I know Tony gets some ribbing for the whole, "take away the streaks," thing but that was all predicated on the assumption that the streaks were flukes. Sine that thread the Orioles have proven that they were not.

April 4-12: 7 game win streak

May 7-14: 7 game win streak

June 5-9: 5 game win streak (part of 8-1 streak starting June 1)

June 22-28: 6 game win streak (and counting)

On the down side, the O's have had one 4-game losing streak (May 22-26) and two 3-game losing streaks (April 24-26 and June 10-12).

As a reminder, before this year, the O's hadn't had a winning streak as long as 7 games since 2005. If they are able to win today, they'll have had three 7-game win streaks in half a season.

I had a hard time believing it really was almost 11 years between win streaks of 7 games, particularly with the success of 2012-15. But you can see research it with streak finder on baseball-reference.com. During that period, the Orioles had numerous losing streaks of 7+ games including both an 8 and a 9-game losing streak later in 2005.

For kicks, I went back to the 1969-71 period:

1969: The Orioles had separate winning streaks of 7, 7, 7, and 8 games.

1970: The Orioles had streaks of 8, 7, and 11 (to end the RS, extended to 17 through game 3 of the WS).

1971: The Orioles had streaks of 9, and 11 (again to end the RS and extended to 16 through game 2 of the WS)

The Mariners are 9-17 in the month of June and they're getting pounded again tonight by the Pirates. Plus the Orioles have the good fortune of missing King Felix in the four game series against the Mariners. This is a prime opportunity for the Orioles to really start putting some distance between themselves and the Jays/Red Sox. I'll be very disappointed if they don't win 3/4 this series.

A sweep is always nice and difficult to do. But, when you score 11 runs against the team that is last in the NL it certainly shouldn't leave one overly optimistic. Same with pitching, but 4 runs over 3 games is a plus. The day off is nice. I hope they keep the MO going.
