Your glad to be wrong???? Seriously Weams?

So your happy we are paying a guy 15 million to do a job we already have covered? How does that work?

Sixteen million. And we have a real good backup catcher. You don't get much in the market for 16 million these days.

edit: You're also assuming worst case for Wieters, and best case for Joseph. I'm not entirely convinced Caleb Joseph is a serviceable ML starting catcher. Luis Hernandez looked like a ML-average SS in short stints, until he didn't.

I'm sure Joseph is some kind of MLB catcher, but it's far from guaranteed that he's better than Wieters. And not certain that he's going to be an average catcher. His slash line now sits at .224/.284/.376. He's 30 in June. Remember all this talk about how Wieters is a bad bet, 30-year-old catchers tend to decline quickly? Joseph and Wieters are the same age, and if you're falling from a baseline of .224/.284/.376 there's not a long way to fall before you're not a MLB starter. Even if you're a plus defender.

Plus, he's not used to heavy workloads. His MLB line in two Septembers is 11-for-95. I guess that could just be bad luck.

His workload hasn't even been what you could call heavy.

"good chunk" Don't expect a big bump of payroll from Angelos to cover this.

So you're telling me we don't have 20 million to give Davis and 15 million to give Chen?

Really bummed. This team has just too many holes and Wieters at 15.6 million is not good value when we have Joseph, who is not much of a downgrade. Davis is as good as gone.......or if we do manage to resign him we will have no money to address any other areas of need.

We gambled and lost.

If so then that tells me all I need to know about how much this team values winning.

I get we are not a "large market team" but a 105 million....ridiculous in this market with 2 media streams coming in.
