L. J. Hoes Goes back to O's

You didn't ask me, but I don't. And I'll take Hoes over Reimold at this point. He's just more solid all around.

More solid in what sense? He doesn't have more power. He doesn't have a better arm. He isn't faster. He doesn't hit better at the major league level. He doesn't have a better OBP at the major league level. He isn't a better fielder by much, and he certainly isn't good enough to where one would mention his fielding as an asset.

So in just what way is he more solid than Reimold overall?

He has yet to fail as an Oriole.

Seven years younger and cheaper. Burden is on Reimold to show that he is better.

Why does it have to be Reimold v. Hoes? We do need a LF and RF. Before the last month of the season Reimold looked done. Was done. Like not with the team done. We desperately need corner OF's in this system. We really need to add a LH OF to the mix. Right now we're at;

Reimold

Hoes

Parades

Alvarez

Tolleson

Lough

Urruta

Yaz

A guy like Aoki on a short/cheap deal makes a lot of sense.

Don't care for Aoki.

Expanding on your point, how much has Hoes shown at the ML level?

Infinitely more than Lough. If the choice is between Hoes and Lough, at least they've made the team younger by four years. Hoes entering his prime at 26 may offer more upside potential than Lough at 30.

Reimold had a very good season at 25 years of age, albeit a partial season.

Lough is a defensive specialist and Hoes is nowhere near his level. Again, he has to hit to be of use. Reimold hits and has OB skills while Lough provides defensive value. If Hoes can raise his OBP to a range similar to what he showed in the minor leagues then he'll be worth keeping.

    • He is one of my favorite guys on the team. So happy for him. He didn’t moan when he got sent down last year.  He was grinding over the winter to get better and is working with someone on the mental side. Just a great story and now a guy that has forced his way into the rotation.
    • He is a great story. We will have to continue to make room for him because he is the 90% outcome for many behind him.
    • I think Cal's record was able to happen because of a time in O's history when there was no strong manager.  I doubt Cal's streak would have made it to one season if he had played his whole season under Weaver.  Weaver was way ahead of his time on matchups, platoons and resting players.  The  bigger thing about Cal's streak, imo was that it was allowed to happen, where it took on a life of it's own, dwarfing the team.  I'm not diminishing the feat, but there's rarely a player that plays 162 games in a year now.  It's just recognized that people wear down and need rest.  I want to say to that probably the 5 players behind Cal on the streak list did things to basically cheat and prolong their streak especially Gehrig, where he would hit once and then not play the rest of the game.
    • Goes right back to Ted Williams. Get a good pitch to hit and drive it.
    • There was an attempt to debunk this article in the other O'Hearn thread where it's the OP, but in it O'Hearn explains that his efforts to change launch angle and severely limit when he swings underlie the improved performance since coming to the Orioles.
    • I'm thinking that Suarez can be that extra high leverage arm the O's need.  Someone who can take some of the closing pressure off Kimbrel.  No, Hyde, the closer doesn't have to get every save.  I hate when Hyde uses every high leverage arm in a single game then the next game you just have the B squad.
    • Would have been nice for his campaign if he had been allowed to go 8 or even go for the shutout.
