(vs. DIAMONDBACKS, 9/25)

In Mychal Antonio Givens' 2 shutout innings, he struck out 3 batters on 9 pitches in his 1st inning.) :eektf: )The other batter that he faced that inning was hit by a pitch on a 1-2 count.

In his 2nd inning of work, he retired the Diamondbacks 3 up, 3 down.

He threw: 26 Pitches (21 Strikes, 5 Balls.)

Overall, the bullpen threw 4 shutout innings, while have no margin for error.

1 Hit.

1 Walks, 6 Strikeouts. O:eek:

62 Pitches (44 Strikes, 18 Balls.)

Givens, in particular, was very impressive today.

The one base-runner that he allowed in his 2 innings of work (a hit batsman) may have been a bad call, also.

Buck says no may. He says it was one of the 12 replay calls that New York blew for the Orioles this year.

(vs. BLUE JAYS, 10/04) oo [Wild Card Playoff Game]

Pressed into action very early in the game ...... runners on 1st and 3rd base with only one out, in the 5th inning.

Battled valiantly until finally falling in the 11th inning.

In spite of the heartbreaking end to the season, I believe that the bullpen as a whole was great this season.

They survived Darren O'Day missing a couple of major chunks of the season, and they had a lot put on them by an erratic offense and some very shaky starting pitching that often left them very little margin for error.

The Orioles managed to win 2 out of 3 games from the Blue Jays in Toronto late in the regular season, and the bullpen overall did very well in the Wild Card playoff game that was played there on Tuesday.

The Blue Jays just knocked Cole Hamels out of the box in the 4th inning of Game One of the A.L.D.S.

These are super small sample sizes, of course, but I do think that the last 4 games that the Orioles played the Blue Jays in Toronto (the 3 regular season games in late September and the playoff game on Tuesday) were a microcosm of their (the Orioles' bullpen) season overall.

Well, if the O's had gotten the lead and Zach had shut them down for the save it would have been a microcosm of the season.

This bullpen is dominant. And it will continue to be dominant. Not only do we have:

Britton

Brach

Givens

O'day

Hart

Drake

Worley(trade bait)

But we have guys like Liranzo, Garcia and Scott in AA already. With Cleavenger and Meisenger right behind them. The bullpen will continue to be a recipe for success and will continue to help us out perform out "projections" every year.

It was a microcosm of the season, just as it was.

The Orioles went 89-73 and barely snuck into the playoffs as the 2nd Wildcard, they didn't go 102-60 and stomp their way to the division title.

The bullpen would often pitch brilliantly, both in many close victories and in many close defeats throughout the entire season.
