The bullpen is crazy-go-nuts

(vs. GIANTS, 8/12)

Mychal Antonio Givens and Donnie Scott Hart retired all 7 batters that they faced.

Brad Brach came in and ceded a single and an RBI-double.

Zachary Grant Britton came in and closed the door, retiring all 3 batters that he faced, 2 via the strikeout.

So does Brad Brach not have a middle name?

Kinda OCD so was wondering...

So, does Brad Brach not have a middle name?

I'm kind of O.C.D., so I was wondering ......

Apparently not.

In fact, his first name is apparently NOT "Bradley."

Everywhere that I have searched (Baseball-Reference, Wikipedia, his Twitter account, ESPN, etc.), his name is written a "Brad Brach" ........ not "Bradley", and no middle name.

(AUGUST 22nd)

On Friday and Saturday, the bullpen joined the rest of the team in being flat-out lousy.

I believe that Darren O'Day's absence has been a factor in some of their recent struggles.

Yovani Gallardo's 7-inning stint yesterday afternoon certainly helped the overworked bunch, albeit in a losing cause.

Pretty good take IMO. DOD's absence has a cascade effect on the overall quality of the bullpen. Its pretty hard to not feel that even in optimal circumstances. When the SP is scuffling lime ours is, its only magnified more.

(vs. NATIONALS, 8/22)

3 innings of 1-run ball.

Mychal Given gave up a home run to the first batter that he faced, but rebounded nicely to get the next 3 batters out, including 2 strikeouts to maintain the Orioles' 1-run lead.

Donnie Hart gave up a lead-off double to Daniel Murphy, but erased him on the next play with an alert throw to Jonathan Schoop after Murphy had wandered off the bag on a ground ball.

Brad Brach ceded a walk, but got 2 outs to finish the inning without allowing the Nationals to score, punctuated by a strikeout of Ryan Zimmerman with runners on 2nd and 3rd base and 2 outs.

Zach Britton ........ was Zach Britton.

(vs. D-RAYS, 9/18)

Pressed into action early, as starting pitcher Wade Miley left the game after 4 innings with back-spasms.

In 5 innings, the bullpen ceded a solo home run on their very first pitch, and no more.

Darren Christopher O'Day.

Donnie Scott Hart.

Mychal Antonio Givens.

Brad Brach.

Zachary Grant Britton.

    • Jered Weaver!! How's that for a random 10+ year old pull? Sadly, he might be the only one! But yes, there has been at least 1.

    • Wow. “Near-ready starter” and consideration in the top 100 based on a breakout in 17.1 IP in AA as a 25 year old? I’d love to see it obviously, but that seems really going out on a limb. Young hasn’t pitched nearly enough in his whole professional career to suggest he can hold up under a full SP workload, or sustain this velo bump. I’m excited for Young and this only reinforces my thought that the Orioles might have something here, but my hopes are still just for a healthy season and maybe he becomes a RP option in 2025.
    • Yesterday Max Bay was Eno's guest.   I'd known the name as Eno often described him as the mathy co-parent of Stuff+ but it was new to me in the video he'd been a 1-time member of the Astros analytics department.
    • It’s starting to feel like if we don’t get Gunnar signed, the rest of it won’t even matter. We have a lot of good players and several that are extension worthy as has been outlined in many posts. But Gunnar is in another stratosphere even from the best of the other guys. The talent, the results (already, not to mention the likely improvement or at least potential for that in the next few years) good health so far with the body type that should maintain - the kid is an outright superstar, and I just don’t think that is true of the rest of these guys.  I love Westburg, Adley, Colton, Jackson, Grayson. Hell I love this team. But Gunnar is The Guy and it’s not even remotely close.    Surely there is a Boras client in the history of Boras clients who has signed early?  Give the dude a blank check as far as I’m concerned.
    • I'd target Westburg first.  He should be more amendable and affordable and might serve as a sign to his teammates that the O's are serious about keeping a core together for an extended run.
