Woodie's World, 1971: The Earl of Weaver

This is neat, thanks for posting. The thing that struck me most was how empty Memorial Stadium was back in those days.

Anytime.

It is kind of startling how the attendance has changed for all teams over the last 4 and-a-half decades, including the Orioles. At that time, 1 Million per year was the mark of respectability. At the turn of the Century, the respectability mark was 2 Million. Now, it's probably about 2.25 Million.

As the Orioles' manager, Earl Weaver had a win rate of 94.3 per season (I'm not sure if that takes into account the strike-shortened 1972 and 1981 seasons by pro-rating/computing them to 162 games.)

Earl Weaver was born 86 yrs ago today.

And just a few hours later ...... what a game, on the day that Weaver was born.
