Last week, the Yankees lost 6 consecutive games, yet managed to move up in the power rankings.  

The New Yorkers endured a second consecutive horrible week, and the ESPN experts finally relented and move them down to #5 overall.

For his part, Tim Kurkjian said that he DID NOT have the Yankees in his Top-5 because of the fact that they have gone 2-10 over their last 12 games.

 

The Orioles, on the other hand, moved down another 5 slots overall (from #16 to #21.)

In all fairness, I wouldn't realistically expect a team with a losing record on the season in August to be in the upper half (top 15) in the major leagues. 

Now that we're at .500, you'd put us right around #15 out of 30 if you're unbiased; below 15 if you think we're going to regress; and above 15 if you think the best days are still ahead for this season's Orioles.

It will be telling if we are above .500 when the next Power Rankings come -- if we are #15 or below, the national media is giving us the typical treatment. Based on pure historical performance with no anti-Orioles bias, if we're, say, 3 games over .500 next Monday, you have to rank us at least CLOSE to #10 overall -- maybe #12.
