Platoon Davis and Trumbo

Let's face it -- both got bad contracts and are performing extremely poorly for the money they're being paid.  But it's water over the dam.  We can at least make the best of a bad situation by limiting their exposure.  This season, Trumbo has a .763 OPS vs LH Starters, while Davis has a .762 OPS vs RH Starters.  I'd take a .763 combined OPS from the two of them.  I would advocate continuing the platoon until one or both of them show real signs of breaking out of their funk -- and if neither do, then might as well keep platooning until you can DFA Trumbo in mid-2019 or find a trade partner willing to eat some of his salary (nobody's going to touch CD's contract with a ten foot pole until at least 2020).

In the meantime, you can take Mancini's glove out of the outfield, hopefully for good, while continuing to give him everyday at bats.  By the way, Mancini has hit much better this year when he's played 1B or DHed.  Why force a square peg into a round hole?  Trey is one of the few bright spots we have for the future, and he'll be around longer than Trumbo and about as long as Davis (unless we can get rid of CD somehow first).  We should be facilitating Trey's success in whatever way we can, not kowtowing to crusty and declining veterans that we foolishly paid way too much.
