MASN is at BEST a stalemate and probably down the road a bankrupt entity with released rights to each team.

You’ve said this several times but I don’t see the basis for it.    Whatever the flaws of the RSDC decision, it recognized that rights fees had to be set at a level where MASN could earn a profit.   If cable fees earned by MASN go down at some point, the rights fees paid the teams also will go down the next time the rights fee “reset” occurs.    So there’s no reason to think MASN would go bankrupt.

I am convinced that the backwards liability to rights assessment will cripple the poorly run station. I am relatively certain that the appropriate monies for that have not been put aside in totality. Probably just the Nats liability portion.

And you are right, if cable rights implode, the payout would not occur. But I don't see it as an ongoing profitable business. No.

I think that in the past six years the  conventional wisdom around MLB -- not necessarily the correct view, but the most common one -- about a GM's areas of competence has changed, making Buck and those with his background and expertise less viable GM candidates in the eyes of most teams.

Of course , what those around MLB think and do probably matters very little, or not at all, to Peter Angelos, who may not know what's going on around MLB or, if he does, probably doesn't care. If he likes the idea of Buck as the Orioles' GM, and if Buck wants the job, Buck will get the job -- even if no other MLB team would  consider Buck for 20 seconds.

That's the Oriole Way.

I;m not sure no other team would consider Buck ,but I am pretty sure no new wave GM type would consider or be considered by PA.

That's what worries me about replacing Duquette. Angelos may be interested in only guys who have been around and whom he's familiar with -- and guys like that may be unwilling to sign on with a team that is so screwed up and is likely about to enter a transition period with a large estate tax bill. The "new wave" guys may be willing to take the job, but that's academic if it's not offered to them.

Angelos has already spent that money.  He didn't buy baseball players with it either.

Wonder how much that will change under the new law.  Not that he has to worry much about paying it.

Doesn’t change much.    The exclusion was raised from $11 mm to $22 mm for a married couple.  Not that important when your estate is worth a billion or so.

I haven't touched this thread yet. I can't believe that there's a 180+ post thread about "What if Dan gets an extension?" Should I go to page 1 and wade into this morass, or just pretend it doesn't exist?

Save yourself the time, and just bump this one.

It's Dan-related.
