I don't care for ERA or it's variants. His lowest fWAR was 1.5. That's in the realm of league average.

Yeah, if this deal is at exactly $50 mm, I agree they’d find a way to make it a dollar less.   But I think that’s unlikely.   I guess we’ll find out.

We know bad when we see it. We know that Mike Wright has no idea where the ball is going but gets outs sometimes anyway. To me, that doesn't seem to be the case with Cashner.

He wasn’t outright bad last year in spite of his poopy peripherals. You can luck your way to a presentable ERA. Unfortunately it’s more likely you won’t.

Ok, I am just not willing to concede that Andrew Cashner has a skillset that doesn't exist in the modern game outside of him. That's not usually a good bet.
