I'm tickled by Davis leadoff.  He's one of our more platoon dependent guys.

Odorizzi is just the type of medium good righty he might get a 3rd look at if he is Odorizzi's 19th batter faced, but not if he's 24th.

If they want the platoon advantage at 19, that's going to your bullpen in the 5th and the 4th if it is a good day.

Davis is worth the full time run investment to start the year, but if he can't figure out lefties at all, the next step in this is Buck being willing to use Valencia for him against LHP in late and close situations at 28, or even middle and close situations at 19 when the leverage warrants.

Disappointing to see Gentry in there over Rasmus and Santander.

Could this be a Buck preference/seniority thing for opening day? I can’t imagine Gentry getting a lot of playing time over Rasmus against RHP.

Odorrizi has reverse splits and good change up to LHB's. Still an odd choice IMO, I would rather have Colby with a bad matchup than Gentry with a good matchup regardless of split.

So after the first at bat of the year, about a 33% each chance of 1 out, runner on first via BB, or 1-0 O's.

I know 33% isn't even close to the real numbers, but he basically only does 3 things so I'm having fun with it.

I really want to see Chris try to put one down on the left side of the infield every time with no one on.

No reason this can’t be successful 40-50 percent of the time if he’s really working on it.

Shift adjusts and then maybe your batting average goes up 20 or 30 points.

Except he has tried this many times during his career and I cannot recall a single time he has done it successfully.

He's definitely been working on it in spring training. He seems to get thrown out by the pitcher every time, though.
